Is there any way in a print layout to get the date of the first and last selected appointment?

What do you mean by the first and last selected appointment? What's the purpose of this?

By first and last, I mean chronologically first and chronologically last. The purpose is to be able to give a summary of the span that the report covers (e.g. "Selected Events, 5/15/08-5/21/08").
