Could someone please explain the scripts for Pre Data Extraction/Post Data Extraction.

Would it be possible to use this feature to create a list of opportunities excluding the abandoned and/or suspended ones?

I'm simplifying this by ignoring your first question. You can create a list of opportunities that are neither abandoned nor suspended in a Smart List: select the Status field and add conditions saying "match all" for 'is not abandoned' and 'is not cancelled.' If you want reports or print layouts they can draw from this smart list.

You do not need to use the pre/post scripts for this.
To get a list of matching opportunities:
- Create a report
- Drag in a Table
- In the 'Data' inspector of the Table, click on the + sign and select 'Visual Query Filter'
- In the visual Query Filter, select 'Opportunity'
- Now in the criteria area, add 'Status' and specify 'Not Abandoned' AND 'Not Suspended'
- When you've added both criteria, you'll need to change the match 'any' to match 'all'
- Now in the table, add the columns you want to see

That should do it.
