Greetings. I am a Daylite newbie, experienced db programmer, but new on the Mac.

For my first new Print Layout in Daylite I want to start with the Group Summary print layout and alter it (add to it). However, I can't seem to get it as a choice of a layout to start with.

The reason I want to use the Group Summary print layout is that it displays 2 tables based on 2 different areas - Contacts and Organizations, and this is a key feature for me. I have Groups that include both Contacts and Organizations and need to make a series of Print Layouts that include information from both.

Is there a way for me to use that Group Summary as a template, or am I going to need to learn without an example how to get the 2 different data sets onto a Print Layout from one Group?

Some of the reports like this are actually inside the DayLite application. If you right click (control click) on the DayLite.app and then select "Show Package Contents". This will open a Finder window of the contents of the program itself. Then in the search box of that finder window type "Group Summany" and you will see it come up with "Group Summary.dlrpt". This is the file you want. You can option-click the file and drag it to your desktop to make a copy of it. Make sure to copy it and not drag it out of DayLite.app. Then control click this file and "Show Package Contents". In this file you will find a .RTF file that you can edit. You will see all the codings in here. Edit this file making the changes you want, then rename the "Group Summary.dlrpt" file to what ever you want it to be.

Copy that file to you home directory /Library/Application Support/DayLite/Templates directory and then from within DayLite your new report should show up.

Am I correct in understanding that I'll now need to edit this only in the rtf file, and can't use the "Edit Print Layout" feature from within Daylite to edit it through the front end?

That will be fine, I'll figure it out, but wanted to ask in case there's a way I'm not seeing to get at it from within the program.

Yes, I believe that you can only do this by editing the RTF file. I believe that this is the format from the old report engine that is still recognized by Daylite. The new report engine is what you are using with the "Edit Print Layout" but it stores it in a different format. The new reports end in .dlreport the old format is the .dlrpt. In the new format reports if you look at them the same way, showing package contents, the 2 main files inside are archived and the format is not published so we have to edit them using Daylite.
