Hi,

I was looking for a way to account for hours put into a project. I like the table in Opportunity/Estimate. I wish there was something like that for Projects.

So what I did was to create a form with the date, amount of time, and type of activity. I'm thinking of doing a report type that compiles the data of all these forms according to what I need, like: time spent on all projects in a timeframe, or total time spent on project X. Hopefully give me what i need.

Is there a better way maybe?

Have you tried using tasks that are linked to the project? That's the way I track time spent on a project as well as what was done each time.

Hi Thorri,

I thought about it. Although it would give me a list of things done, unfortunately tasks don't have for field for time (it has a field for start and end dates) and no field for unit cost for time (hourly cost).

I'd like to be able to have a report that just spits out the incurred labor expense on a project and just mark it up to know how much i charge the client.

Actually tasks do calculate elapsed time based on the start and end timestamps (on a completed task, look below the start date field for 'total duration'). You can edit the start/end times to get the total time you want.

If you have different rates to apply, you could indicate that with categories (until there's a more elegant way). My ideal time report would also round up the time to the nearest billable increment (6 minutes, 15 minutes, or whatever).

If you use Forms, you'll probably need to have multiple fields on a single form in which to enter your different blocks of time on a project, and then you can add them up; I don't think you can currently summarize data from multiple forms (I'd love to be shown wrong on that!)
