Hi, all,

Is anyone aware of a third-party report editor for Daylite?

Failing that, anybody know how to work with the archive files in the report bundles directly? I can't figure out if they un-archive into some sort of plaintext format or if it's a Cocoa thing.

How do those of you who create a lot of reports do it? I'm trying to tough it out with the included editor but am looking for options.

Thank you.

Hi there

There are no third party report design tools for Daylite, and we don't publish the proprietary binary format of our reports. However, we are aware that the lack of documentation for this area of Daylite is a big problem, so we'd like to work as closely as possible with you to help you make the most of the built-in editor. What kinds of things are you trying to do?

Thx!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a programmer, so the lack of documentation, while somewhat frustrating, is not my largest concern. The interface and lack of undo are causing me more problems. There isn't even undo in the text fields! I am composing F-script in my own text editor and copying and pasting so that I don't lose anything, and making regular copies of the report files themselves so I can revert if necessary.

I have had a few feature/documentation issues, such as not being able to figure out how to change the height of table rows (keep on entering numbers into the "height" and "min render height" fields and nothing happens) and what names to use for certain types of objects, but I'm mostly figuring them out with trial and error.

Trial and error is easier, with undo, though smile

Thanks.

Hi Jason

We've added some new features to the report engine, including undo and redo (finally!) and some layering options, as well as new selection methods, but they have only been incorporated with Billings. However, a new update to Daylite will be out VERY soon and that will have these new features.

I'm sorry that it's not there yet, but hang tight, soon you should be able to do more trial and error, with ease.

Thx,

adam
