How do I go about creating a report (really a summary of all the fields) of a form? I don't understand the elements of a print-out, such as; Box, Group By, Dynamic Text, Text Box, etc. What are these used for? (I understand Strip and Table, sort of)

For example, I have a form that holds all the details of a wedding, such as; Ceremony Location, Ceremony time, Reception location, reception time, Package Booked, Directions to Church, etc.

I want a simple printout of all the fields on one page. I want a label on the left and then the data indented from there (kinda like a table on the side with the 'headers' down the side rather than across the top)

I've looked at the movies, but they really don't explain what the different elements are used for. Also, I can only find my Form fields in the Table element, but not in the other elements.

HELP!!

I created the page report using Tables to display the information from the forms. I tested several versions and they looked good, printed out a few and I'm getting it to where I want.

BUT... for some reason, when I try to print the report now, it starts rendering pages upon pages upon pages! I Forced Quit after it hit rendering over 1000 pages and restarted DL. Now, whenever I try to print, the same thing happens.

What have I done??

The problem had something to do with formatting a table. I had set the font size of a header row text to 8 and believe I had inserted a newline when there wasn't space for one. Somehow this was generating multiple pages. When I changed the font size to 9, eliminated the space and made the table a little larger, it worked.

Anyone know why this is happening?

BTW.. I'm having a great conversation with myself!! yawn

Mike,
I agree.

THis is why I often give up on report writing in frustration.

The report writer is very powerful. But, I don't know enough about the fields, etc. to make the effort productive.

Heres hoping for more documentation of report writing smile

In the meantime, keep after it. Seems you are making good progress!

Regards,
Rob

Thanks for the encouragement Rob. I had to do quite a bit of digging and searching to find things out. The way the movies are made covers the very basics, but doesn't give you any practical advice on how to do things like 'nesting' of the elements, what each element is used for or how to find the data you want to include. It was actually an accidental press of a button that lead me to the forms data.
Where I get confused is the many levels of contact and organization fields. Like which address is the proper one and at what level? How do you find the additional info, like third or fourth phone numbers, extra email addresses and such.
It would be great if MC would publish a simple users guide... a Daylite Reports & Forms for Dummies!! And give some practical examples too. I'm not a programmer, so a lot of the elements and information terminology is foreign to me.
But I can see it being very powerful and although I don't need a lot of reports, I can see using this for forms, contracts, work-sheets, etc. for the many different fields I cover in my photography.
