I've been trying to create my own invoice template. I've managed to get most of it working, but I am having problems with getting the slip name and slip total into the template.
When I look at the provided templates I can see the slip name and total in them, but I cannot find these when I create my own dynamic text box. Can someone help? Many thanks. |

Exactly the same problem I'm having.
This was precisely the reason i decided to check this program out over all others - but unfortunately 2.5 hours later - I find that they forgot something: A simple copy-paste from one template to another would solve this or Adding 'slip name' somewhere in the dynamic text field options. Great program - the programmers just fell asleep when it came to the customizer part. (and isn't this directed towards designers? You'd think this would be important.) Hmmmmm.... To keep trying - or give up. Doesn't seem like many questions get answered here unfortunately. I think that just turned a definite 'buy and recommend on my blog' into a 'be weary of' status. If anyone has any tips -- please do reply! Thanks in advance, // jayse |

just found these for future people's help
http://www.billingsapp.com/support/category.php?id=11 they're really great tutorial videos. Unfortunately they don't go into much depth on creating your own - or truly customizing a pre-built template. Everything is nested and kinda awkward. I can't figure out the technique - but for some reason the prebuilt templates are set up with body/table/data and the dynamic fields have extra parts to click on like 'table>reports' etc. wherein lies the slip stuff... hours later - trying to modify a stupid prebuilt template and I'm giving up. I'm a certified expert at inDesign, Quark, Pagemaker, After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop and you guys have me stumped. 'gnight, // jayse |

I went for a different route... I wanted to present the Activity Report with my invoice to clients.
The problem is that the Activity Report doesn't filter by client... only by date. I tried and tried to implement a client filter on a cloned version of the Activity Report. While I was able to get a select box populated with Clients on the Activity Report screen, the report itself still does not filter. I wrote to Marketcircle asking for the line(s) of code to insert to enable filter-by-client (along with the default date filter), but never received any responses to my pleas. It's a shame, because I really need to include Activity Reports with the invoices to clients. And without this feature, there's no real reason for me to use Billings when I have to manually create these reports per client. I just downloaded the tutorial that claims to show how to include total hours on an invoice. It might help me move back to Billings, though I'm not counting on it considering my needs. |

wow I forgot about this post... I think they gave up on this program... like many of their former customers.
Shame - cos it has such potential. |

It only had potential if there is an attempt to satisfy the needs of users. I haven't seen any such attempt here.
Billings works well for those who only have one client, or for those who might have many clients who don't need any documented activity details. In my case, I have 5 big clients, each who like to see a listing of Activities for which I am billing. Some people here refer to it as adding slips to invoices. Each serves the same purpose, yet neither is possible with this application. |

After 4 hours of trying, i finally managed to get it done. You have to create a box (or body which is next to impossible) inside a slip and in that slip a table. In that table find the "data" tab in the information inspector and click + to add a standard filter. In that choose "Parent Data Row or Page" and choose "Invoice's Billable Slips" From the dropdown menu. Click OK (or play around a bit) and viola!
