Danny, I am not a recruiter, but I am very familiar with the business. Perhaps I can help you. What do you want/need?

trying to see what fields, categories, etc are being used. how to use the opportunities with a candidate. seems to be a lot of duplication when entering data

Yes, you can do a lot of duplication, if you are not careful. Don't feel pressured to use every field and drop-down in DayLite. Use only something that makes sense.
Look at how you organized your work before you had DayLite. Add those to DayLite. If you find that you cannot search/sort/filter/report in a meaningful way, then you can look at adding additional fields, among other things to consider. Should you find that the provided fields don't provide you with enough information or grouped in a way you really want it to be, then you can look at using the Forms feature - very powerful. *********************************** Macsimum News |

Page 73 of the DayLite manual will tell you how to create and apply forms. What they don't do is tell you whether or not you should use a form or use the large number of pre-defined and user-defined fields already in a standard DayLite package. If you should use a form, the manual will not tell you the best way to design it.
You can do all this yourself because DayLite is very simple to use, for such a complex application. And, you might find yourself duplicating forms that are typical for the recruiting industry. I might suggest that you find a nearby DayLite consultant to help you or, at least, get you started. Don't feel like you *have* to. It depends on how fast you want to be effective. One question I have…are you using DayLite 1.X or 3.x? I don't believe that forms were available on DayLite before version 3…but I could be wrong. *********************************** Macsimum News |

Glad to hear that you are using 3.X. Act! 2000 has a lot of maturity and you probably had a lot of time with it so it is no wonder that you feel that it was easier to work with. I've been working with sales automation software since 1988 and have seen a lot of different packages. Act! is a good one, but, in my experience, found it wanting in many areas. Nevertheless was still good for many people.
That said, my experience with DayLite, its direction, and the utilization of the various unique strengths of the Macintosh platform is a better solution for most things than Act! is. As far as that goes, I think that it is also better than another Windows-only package that I have a higher regard for than Act!, Goldmine. And that is with far fewer years to get its feet on the ground the feature set built up. And there are many things to come directly from DayLite's developers as they add more features and from the "free" improvements that come because they have so fully utilized the Macintosh environment and we will all benefit as Apple adds new features to the operating system that DayLite will take advantage of automatically. (sorry for rambling…long day). I would say to budget a little bit of time to see if an "expert" can assist you in the set up of your workflow. You are in sales and an increase in production will result in a direct increase in your personal revenue to offset the expense. Try to find one locally. If not, try to find one that can use Remote Desktop or VNC to work with you on your actual stuff from where they are located. *********************************** Macsimum News |

Scott -- What Macintosh features does Daylite take advantage of? (My mind is drawing a blank on this.) Thanks!

We are relatively new tro Daylite and are trying to use it for our small recruiting company.
Wondered if others had discovered "The Way" and had any advice for those of us stumbling around? Guy |

I'm reviewing alternative options for recruiting software for the Mac. Looking at Daylite. Right now I'm using Filemaker Pro. Anyone have any thoughts about using Daylite for recruiting (thumbs up or thumbs down). Things I hope daylite will be able to do:
1 - synch contacts to palm, cell, and email. 2 - keep track of businesses and all employees working for each business. 3 - advanced search (bolean) within contacts notes and resumes. 4 - ability to link contacts, candidates, clients to specific job orders (notes of candidates contacted, interviewed, withdrew, etc.). 5 - ability to set up groups for mass direct mailing. 6 - ability to set up form letters for emailing. Any advise feedback on how Daylite will perform on these issues would be appreciated. Best regards, Tony |

Tony, while very few things will beat a custom solution for being able to do anything you could possibly want, I think that the time saved using DayLite over FMP, for this type of CRM function, will be tremendous for you. DayLite will do all of the things that you have listed and much more. Download and play with the demo. Then come back here and ask targeted questions. DayLite does have a learning curve.

OK. I've downloaded the software. Imported my clients (companies). Imported my contacts. And I've been working with the software for about 2 weeks.
Question 1: My contacts all have resumes that I need to be able to search. First, how do I best import these resumes (often multiple pages) into daylite? Second, where is the best place to import a resume (FORMS appears to limit the amount of text that can be entered but allows you to search the text within the resume, NOTES allows you to place the whole resume within a note, but will not allow you to search the text beyond the title)? Any suggestions? |
