Hi, all!
I use DL as a teacher for all kinds of school management purposes. BUT I haven't yet found a way to use it for my own class. E.g., I'd like to assign a homework to the whole class (= task assigned to group). OK, fine. But I can't handle the pupils individually - no checkbox for accomplished tasks. I can only assign tasks (homework) to each one of them, but try to do this every day for a whole class! I can't find a way to create a task for a group and mark the status checkbox "done" individually. Phew… My aim is to keep control of all that daily stuff, odds and ends, those dozens of little trivia that I have to keep in my head or note on papers. I want to get rid of all those papers, if possible with DL. Any idea how I could manage this? Thanks a lot! Hp This message has been edited. Last edited by: HpR, |

You can create and associate tasks to a group and/or a contact(pupil). In fact you can link the task to both at the same time.
While there is no 'check box' interface in Group, you can view that task in your task list. You can checkmark it there. If the tasks are repetitive, you may look at using 'Activity Sets' to define the repetitive tasks and then create the activity set for the contact or group. HTH |

Hello,
This may seem like a strange way to approach it, but I know what you're trying to accomplish by having the same Task linked *individually* to each of your students (so if 30 students, you have 30 Tasks: 1 for each student). You can do the Activity Set option, which will allow you to have a checkbox, but you will have to select each student/Contact 1 at a time and then do Create>New Activity Set for CONTACT NAME. While really the proper way, it can be time-consuming if you're doing it every day for 30 students. How about this alternative: create a Project that is the homework assignment. In the Roles & Relationships preference (Daylite>Preferences) define 2 roles: 1 to indicate that the student's assignment is pending and 1 to indicate that it was turned in. Select all of your students and link them in bulk to the Project, choosing the pending Role to be applied to all. Then when a student completes the homework, you can change their Role in the Project to the completed Role that you defined earlier in the Preferences. Like you, I would love to have a way to (in bulk) create a separate linked Task for each of the selected Contacts. But the Project method could be a workaround for you. More on this method:
I'm actually kind of liking this Project approach now that I'm thinking about it because you can create a report for the student that lists all of the Projects (assignments) that they're linked to, as well as their role (status: completed or not) for each one. In addition to that, you can create a Project report that will show all of the linked Contacts (students) and their role (status: completed or not). Any ideas on keeping attendance for adult education? Seems like creating a Project for each class might be too cumbersome. The Project list would be so huge. Maybe I'm thinking about it incorrectly. Know anyone who uses Daylite for adult education management in general? Thanks, Kurt
