When I first tried out Billings, I immediately realized I needed to use a new invoice template that would list details of each timeslip, including time entries, as well as have a timesheet section organized by day.

I searched these forums and found a few posts asking for some of the same things, if not exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, rather than a few referrals to the Detailed Timed and Flat Activity Report, there wasn't a lot of help.

I submitted a custom invoice request to Marketcircle to get a quote (or some help - whichever) to just make the template for me, but unfortunately after a few email exchanges over the course of a couple weeks, I had neither help, nor a quote.

So, as a last resort, I dug in and did it myself. I offer it to anyone looking for something similar here simply as a gift that may save you the time and frustration I went through.

That said - it may just as easily cause you frustration or waste your time. I make no guarantees about the template. It may eat your cat, or implode your computer, or who knows what. If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

I expect that much of the F-Script in it could be done far better, just as I expect that much of the F-Script could have simply been avoided with some SQL statements. If I were a Marketcircle guru, I expect this would look better and have taken a lot less time to make. Oh well.

Details: Gravity based template. List timeslips with comments and a per timeslip table of time entries with comments if any, and per time entry duration. After this page(s), next page contains a timesheet with a daily time spent on any timed entries, per day there were entries. Instead of listing individual time entries in the time sheet, only timeslips that had time billed that day are listed (since details on time entries are listed under each slip in the other section).

Thanks...you should look at ibiz...just as costly but way better functionality....I also never gt a quote when requested.

Appreciate the suggestion. Actually I did look at ibiz and time log+grand total, along with some others. There are some nice things about each I liked, but from what I could tell I didn't have the power in their report/invoice customization to do what I wanted either. The decision in billings to allow access to the objects, including creating new data records, making your own SQL queries, and ultimately F-Script giving you the power to do almost anything (albeit, not easily when you don't know what the hell you are doing, like me) is unmatched by anyone else, as far as I can tell. It was enough to get me to buy the program despite the sales/marketing/support... which is sad, but says something about the uniqueness of the software I guess.

Regardless, this is a share forum, so will leave the discussion for one of the other forums.

As for the template, if someone wants to fix up the layout better, I'd really love that. Also, I'd like to optionally combine time entries without comments in the time slip details table to help keep the invoices smaller. I never figured out whether you could easily or officially change up the invoice options dialog to allow additional options like that, as well as delete options that aren't relevant for a particular template. Would love an email or a post in the template customization forum if anyone wants to take on those items or explain how they'd do it.
