In the "Working Slips" pane and on my invoices, Billings 2.5.6 is rounding all my slip times up to the next increment of 10 minutes before calculating the slip total. I can put anything I want in the "Bill time in x minute increments" preference, it makes no difference: Billings always rounds to 10 minutes.
The time value is displayed as entered, only the money value is rounded. Which also makes no sense: if the money value is rounded, the time value needs to be rounded as well. I just found out about the problem because the very first invoice I sent out with the rounding error was caught by the client's accountant, who recalculated the money value of the hours listed and found the total to be incorrect. The accountants may not know what hours I actually worked, but they can multiply just fine, so time and money need to agree with each other. |

Currently when setting "Bill time in minute increments" it only applies to to slips created after having set the value. So all previous slips will not take the new value into account.
I have logged the second issue where the time should be rounded as well. |

Yes, it seems you are right that the time value is rounded when the slip is created.
That makes very little sense IHMO. I can see no good reason why the slip should not simply record the actual time. I may want to run reports for my internal use that tell me how I have been spending my day, so there is a need for that going forward. OTOH, it makes sense to round the time when creating an invoice. As requested here by Ray, ideally the rounding value could be specified per client. Failing that, a useful workaround would be if it were possible to change the rounding value as needed before creating an invoice, so we can accommodate different time billing policies for different clients. It's certainly not practical to change the rounding value before creating each slip, especially if the slips are being created automatically by timers or, as I hope to do, through external time logging facilities such as a telephone log. Please consider re-engineering the rounding facility. :-) |

I agree, this is the only thing missing / wrong with billings for me. If I want to charge 5 minutes of my time for a 5 minute call , I can't!

Emma, if you create new slips after changing the bill time in X minute increments to whatever you want X to be, it should work for you. Are you using old slips?
As an aside, I certainly agree with Chris that it would be far better for the slip to record the rounding value and then store the actual time value, in case your needs change throughout a project (most definitely happens!). |
