Hello Peter,
Yes, you can dial out from Daylite to Skype via Jon's Phone Tool (www.jonsphonetool.com). It's a very cool piece of software, I'm sure that you'll like it. It has a preset for Skype, among others, and can also be configured to pause your iTunes, set your iChat status to "on phone" etc, then restore the settings once you hang up.

Good luck!
Cynthia

I have both Jon's Phone Tool and DayLite 3.X.X. But I do not see how you configure DayLite to use Jon's Phone Tool for dialing. Anyone care to point out how?

If you have JPT installed, when you click on Dial Primary or Dial Secondary for a Daylite Contact, the dial window will appear. Choose JPT from the Device pulldown.

Hope this helps!

Yes, indeed! It greatly helped by giving me the correct direction. Silly me kept thinking that I would find a way to set a default dialer change by looking in DayLite Preferences - imagine that!

Now it is working great. It would be nearly perfect if I could get it (Jon's Phone Tool) to correctly process and strip away extensions that are in the number.

Just wondering why JPT is needed to dial Skype from Daylite? Considering Skype numbers can be dialled using the skype: URL schema couldn't Daylite just dial Skype directly?

(Skype also pauses iTunes automatically these days)

Considering that Jon's Phone tool takes 123 MB of RAM, it is a waste of resources for it to be sitting there waiting for me to dial a number. I can dial directly through Skype from Address book. It should also work from Daylite. I'm sure someone could come up with a simple non-resource hogging plug-in to dial through Skype?

Emiliano,

Managing the phone can be a very big thing all by itself. So, while simple dialing from Daylite would be good, I am glad that the way it is build allows tools to extend the functionality.

As to your complaint about Jon's Phone Tool's RAM usage, here is the thing. Address Book lookup is turned on, by default. If you are using Daylite, then you don't need it. I turned it off (JPT Preferences) and my JPT takes up only 11.4 MB. That is a huge difference.

Emiliano (or others),

How do you dial Skype-out numbers through Address Book?

That would be neat!

Scott,

Where is the option to turn off Address Book lookup? I can't find it in JPT preferences.

There is a separate panel in the JPT Preferences called "AB Menu." The first section is called "Contact Source." I have both items unchecked. In fact, I have all options there unchecked as a precaution.

This is not the forum for it, but I wish that Jon would revisit how he connects to the Address Book. It is very useful functionality, but it greatly impacts the performance of any machine running it.

Skype dialing would be amazing. I tried JPT and it really slowed/interfered with my apps.

I think what Diana meant was how do you AUTO-DIAL numbers from Apple's Address Book through Skype-Out. We just bought a bunch of Skype-Out minutes and want to be able to auto-dial from the AB ... not from Daylite.

Is their an AB plug-in or mechanism for this? JPT isn't working for us either.

Diana and Mark,
In Address Book, locate the desired Contact, click on the label for their phone number (ie "work") and a contextual menu appears: choose Dial with Skype.

Hope this helps,
Cynthia
