Hi,

I'm working on some web-enabled widgets to display projects and I'm trying to get access to the OpenBase database. Is there a way to get the username/password? Do I just need to login as root?

Hi Tony,
You will need a developer's license to get full access to OpenBase Manager. I believe you would contact the OpenBase folks about this: www.openbase.com

Hope this helps,
Cynthia

I can access the database, I just need a username/password. Is this something that daylite uses to connect to openbase or is this something I can set?

My guess is the database created by DayLite has a DayLite username/password. You would probably have to contact DayLite to get access (probably through a developer program). They probably don't want people having access to the database in general because they want to protect the data integrity.

You need an Openbase Developer License to obtain full access. From what I understand a developer license for Openbase is quite pricey.

It would seem to me that to use the Daylite openbase database you need a username/password that was created by Daylite when the database was created.

I don't think that openbase cares who the clients are as long as they can be authenticated. And I don't think getting a developer's license from openbase would grant you access to databases created by third parties such as DayLite.

I think you can get away with the license that comes with Daylite in terms of OpenBase, but you need Market Circle's direct access license ($995 USD) to gain access to the raw tables. I would also assume that this would have to be readonly access.

Can someone from MarketCircle answer this?

I want to write a php/web-based front end for Daylite in php and I want to access the data in the OpenBase database running on my Mac. How can I access this database from Apache? What do I need to purchase? Is there something I can purchase?

It used to be that you needed a PowerCenter license ($3000 per machine) from OpenBase and a license from us. We've negotiated with OpenBase and that requirement (the powercenter license) is no longer needed.

We hope to have a system in place in late January to get read-only access to the raw tables (for a yet to be determined license cost). Read-write access worries us a great deal because of all the tricks we do when we store stuff in the database (the other system would have to ensure the exact same behavior which is unrealistic).

It is totally understandable to prevent r/w access to the database directly because otherwise the Business Logic Layer would be circumvented and data integrity would be compromised.

Getting at the raw tables would allow integration with common sql reporting tools and writing various applications to access the data.

One of the very positive things about SugarCrm is that it is built upon common and standard tools Apache/PHP/MySQL. This allows for very easy integration with other services, backups and portability.

AJ:

Please update us regarding the progress on creating a system that allows access to the raw tables. Is it ready?

What is the cost for the license from Marketcircle?

Do I need anything other than the free OpenBase license to access the date?

Does the raw table include unique identifiers and relationship identifiers for every object?

This is a super-URGENT business need for my company. We have a salesperson starting outside sales and we need to send him the data immediately so he can start working.

I've asked about this in the past too. I see this question hasn't been definitively answered, but I'm going to chime in just in case there's a solution to this issue.
