I've been trying out three other pieces of similar software, and its frustrating that each one has necessary features that the other doesn't. Billings is definitely the prettiest, but there are some frustrating pieces lacking that are so simple, but would make it so much easier to navigate.

For instance:

1) Am I stupid, or is there a way to see in the "Invoices Sent" and "Unpaid Invoices" - the invoice number? This is such a necessary piece of info, and I can't see it.

2) Also, is there a way to see in either my timers window, or my slips window, which company each slip is associated with? For instance, if I have two slips titled "design interface" I have to go through my clients one at a time to see who has the associated slip.

3) Now, here's one other thing... Is there a way to setup custom project statuses? The reason I ask is that right now, there seems to be no way to indicate if a project is "On Hold" or "Recurring", for instance with something like monthly hosting fees, this should just be automatic, instead of having to go through each of my clients once a month and creat a project, slip, invoice, and payment, just to collect a $20 hosting fee. I spend more than $20 worth of time just entering al that info.

Hi there,

I'm intently interested in what other products you are evaluating? I am in the same boat - going to start consulting in the next couple of months and want to make the correct choice in time tracking/invoicing software...

Hi Benikea,

1. Yes there is, you would need to edit the report and add the field. I've seen quite a few people request this so I'll add this as a request.

2. Currently no, but this is a good idea. As of right now the project name and slip name are displayed right above the time in the timer window. I'll add this as a enhancement request.

3. No there isn't.

Alternative Invoicing Apps.

iBiz

iRatchet

Both are direct competitors of Billings - I've tried them all and find that I prefer iRatchet's interface. The program is also being developed by an independent programmer who is very quick to answer any questions.

Both iBiz and iRatchet sync with Apple apps - far more easily than does anything Marketcircle has ever developed.

Information export is my biggest gripe with Marketcircle products. They seem to go out of their way to make sure information from Daylite / Billings can't be exported in any useful manner. You can't even export a basic CSV file of Daylite contacts.

That said none of these apps, nor any of a half dozen others export invoices as QIF files for import into accounting apps such as MYOB.

However ... The developer of iRatchet has this feature on the books for release by the end of the summer (07). He is responding to his clients with the feature they have requested most.

You can export any data from any of our apps. In Daylite, you can configure whatever columns you want and export those a file. You can also use the open API to extract any data in Daylite in any format you want.

With Billings, you can also export anything to text file(s). Select it and export it. You can also export in the .bex format.

Did you not look in the File menu and see the "Export" submenu?? (in both apps nonetheless)


We are happy with people trying other apps and if one of those apps is better for them, then that's cool. We can't be everything to everyone, but please don't spread false information.

Can I add my support for request (2) above. That is to say, could the slips please display with details of client/project name. Constant visual feedback such as this, which gives instant confirmation that the slip is assigned to the right project/client is precious. Otherwise, you are left in the dark.

I should add that the same information is missing in the slips window. You are left entirely in the dark looking at the listed slips as to which client/project they are linked to. Another column or two here would be SO helpful. And totals at the bottomsmile
