2. Delete the Billings folder in ~/Library/Application Support/
3. Open Terminal and cd to ~/Library/Application Support/
4. Type in the following command: "ln -s /Dropbox/Billings Billings" to place a symlink called "Billings" in the Application Support folder, pointing to the "Billings" folder in my Dropbox folder.

However, when I then open Billings, I get the following message:

---
Billings could not set up its Application Support folder.

An error occurred while Billings was setting up its Application Support folder. Check the permissions of the Application Support folder in the Library folder in your home directory to make sure that you can Read & Write to the folder. Choose Help > Mac Help in Finder for more information.
---

I checked the permissions of the folders (now in Dropbox) and they are read/write.

Can someone point me to what I am doing wrong to get this setup? Also, btw, the username is the same on both of my machines that I would like to sync using dropbox.

I used SymbolicLinker to set this up, and didn't have any problems. It's far more easier than using Terminal.

Download it here; http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10433

Got this working the same way using Dropbox over here too. Had my buddy do it for me (he's more familiar with Terminal than I am). Flawless!

I've done this over Dropbox too. It works, but both computers can't be running Billings at the same time.

It's sad to say that as of next month, I will have to ditch Billings. I am starting a new company and will only be working with one other person, but that person will need to be accessing and timing the slips at the same time as me.

The slip-sharing feature is not elegant, and is a bit of a hassle. I don't want to have to deal with that on a daily basis, so unfortunately, I won't be able to use Billings anymore.

Marketcircle, I know you're probably sick of hearing about this feature request, but I feel like it is crucial for this type of application. I love your software, so I will come back as soon as you add multi-user support to Billings!

I have a desktop and a laptop; I don't think the symlink thing is the problem. I'm convinced the problem is that my user account name is different on each box. Apple makes it non-trivial to change one's user account name. Has anyone run against this? Is there a workaround?

Thank you.

P.S. Pretty please MarketCircle, please please please consider we users with more than one computer! The iPhone app is great, btw. Maybe Billings Pro, or Billings Extended, Billings Shared? Please with sugar on top?

Benjie,

I had the same issue of having different account usernames on my laptop and desktop. However, I just followed the instructions at Apple support page and it was no problem changing the username. I haven't had any issues since then.

Since this is really important to me; I guess that's what I'll do. It will be somewhat painful as I have loads of music and so forth. Might give me a chance to clean up, though. Thanks for the link.

So after reading up a bit, this feature is being "worked on" for over 3 years now... no luck yet? I doubt it will ever see the light of day will it?

Too bad, great looking software that fits all our other needs. But as long as it is only usable by 1 user, it's a show stopper.
