Hi,

A client wants a work log as well as an invoice.

I've been adding comments to the timed entries that make up a slip.

I would like a report that broke down the project into slips, then slips into timed entries. Then I would like to groups those entries by day:

{Project Name}

Monday, September 5, 2007:

{timed entry duration} {timed entry comment}
{timed entry duration} {timed entry comment}

etc

Tuesday, Septemeber 6, 2007:

{timed entry duration} {timed entry comment}
{timed entry duration} {timed entry comment}

etc

How could I create a template for this kind of report?

Thank you,

Matt

Very useful report - I'd like to second that as a request for a report - it seems like an _ideal_ report to have as one of the standard c/w Billings reports?

I too would like to know how to do this. I have a client that has a monthly maintenance contract. He wants to know what projects are taking the most time and money. Mine would be very similar to Matt's...

{Month}

{Project One}
{Date Entry} {Slip Name} {Duration (Time)} {Comment}
{Date Entry} {Slip Name} {Duration (Time)} {Comment}
{Date Entry} {Slip Name} {Duration (Time)} {Comment}
{Total Hours} {Total Cost}

{Project Two}
{Date Entry} {Slip Name} {Duration (Time)} {Comment}
{Date Entry} {Slip Name} {Duration (Time)} {Comment}
{Date Entry} {Slip Name} {Duration (Time)} {Comment}
{Total Hours} {Total Cost}

etc...

I unfortunately didn't have much time during my trial period to play with this and just purchased it. I thought this would be something easy to setup but haven't been able to find much documentation other than the Report Engine Concepts. I'm a front-end developer so much of this logic goes over my head.

I've been using Quickbooks Pro for a few years and all of this reporting is built in. I decided to switch over to Billings for the client/project tracking because it seems more focused for this task.

Has anyone recieveed a response on this.. I've been using Billings for a while now, and I now have a client requesting this feature, and I can't find any way to make it happen.

I aimed to have the Activity Report filter not only by date, but also by client. My goal was to present each client with an invoice along with their activity report.

After repeated pleas to Marketcircle for assistance adding a client filter, I haveyet to hear a single word from their support department.

I've pretty much given up on Billings. I wanted to use it as a base invoicing/time tracking solution that was simpler than QuickBooks. However, Billings has failed to meet my expectations. Instead of learning the language to write my own reports, I wrote a web-based version mimicking the flow of Billings. While there are other web-based solutions out there, I wanted it hosted locally and the others didn't seem to fit all of my requirements.

Sounds like another case of poor project planning. Reporting features are typically the most important aspect of a package like this from a business standpoint. However, this aspect is often either overlooked or hasn't been properly budgeted. Disappointing because I thought Billings was a great complete solution. At least the cost was tax deductible and marking it off as another lesson learned.
