I am finding billing v. confusing to get started.

I have 1 main client - the business I run. I want to track time spent in different projects.

Main main needs are to:
1) produce a report for each month on how much time I spent in each project/area of work.

2) check and eidt my tracking data:

I sometimes forget to switch the timer on or off so I need to be able to easily see when I have started and stopped on each block of work for each timed slip in each project so I can check it is correct.

I find these 2 things really hard to do in Billings and btw I am not a "new to computers and easily confused" kind of guy. ( at least not normnally)

Am I using time slips wrong. I have several projects for my main areas of work eg 1 for sales, one for finance management, one for admin, etc. Within these areas I have timeslips for various sub categories eg in the admin project: timed slips for: meetings, tech support, website work, gen admin. When I do this kind of work I switch the timed slip timer on.

Problem 1: To check and edit my time data?

I often forget to switch the timer on or off. So if I need to adjust look at the log but it doesn't tell me start and stop times so I can't adjust easily or review all the slips for that day.

I can produce a report that lists them all with times but not in a way I can edit.

Problem 2: - To produce a report for each month:

How do I do that?

Do I need to create a timed slip for each month for each type of work . That seems a drag.

Any help appreciated.

Personally, I think Billings is overkill for your needs. You should try Slife. It's free and does exactly what you need.

I agree that Billings may be a bit overkill for your needs. It is geared towards billing your time and invoicing clients. It sounds like you are mainly using it to track time for yourself, and that this time will not be billed.

Some of your problems are valid though, and your feedback will be considered to make it easier to check and edit your time data for the day. Thanks for your post.
