I am a graphic designer and sometimes have clients who "forget" to pay. I would like an automatic invoice re-sent (of course, with a pre-send notification for me that I have to approve, in case I've received the money and just haven't entered it in yet) to clients whose invoices are past the due date. A way it might work is that when I start up the program, it could bring up these invoices that need attention.

At the moment we use a old version of Quicken Home and Business. We tried successfully Filemaker too. (Sorry guys to speak about the competitors I swear I am a Marketcircle supporter  ).

On the other hand they both require a huge amount of time. Billings is more intuitive and user friendly.

If the Marketcircle guys can add (1) recurring payment and (2) payment out to provider Billing will be the best software ever.

Hi Brandon,

I would definitely use this... I am just in the process of setting up monthly and/or quarterly payment plans for several web clients. Here is the general workflow/idea:

1. Client signs up for several hours of work, and is given a discount for paying monthly/quarterly. It would be great to be able to set payments as quarterly, monthly, or any amount of time, as well as include a discounted rate (as you can now) for this pre-paying.

2. If I work up to that amount of hours but not more, which I generally would, client gets billed this fee.

3. If I work more than this amount, client gets billed hourly for additional work. Therefore, it would be great if the monthly/quarterly payment in billings could be set up to "pre-include" a certain number of hours, and when that # was exceeded it would add automatically to the invoice.

Happy new year,

I hope this is the year will see the arrival of this feature in billings.

You designed an otherwise brilliant product, I have faith you can do it right. I'd be happy with any method you choose to design it.

Please just do it, please.

If you must know how I'd use it:

I have clients that I charge monthly hosting, annual domains, and consulting retainer billed monthly and quarterly. I use templates for all these slips, all I'd need is a checkbox labeled "RECURRING" and a date/frequency field. If it can run as a cron great, if I have to run the app I'm fine with that too.

Cheers guys, here is to another great year.

Count me in on this. I have several monthly and quarterly invoices, as well as around 100 annual ones for sites I host. At the moment, I manually copy/paste from the previous period's invoices and slips.

COunt me in as well! When looking for an estimates & billing application the only reason for not buying billings was the recurring invoice option. With a growing number of hosting and maintenance clients it is very tricky to manage this by hand.

A nice way to add this functionality would be to have it the way studiometry does.

A "special" type of working slip that holds all the information required (like monthly/quarterly/yearly billing, description, amount, etc.) and have this create working slips inside a project.

In an extra screen you would be able to see all recurring items that need billing and with the press of a button you would be able to generate these invoices.

I downloaded Billings recently. I currently use BlinkSale for my billing and wanted something that works a bit better.

I would like to be able to do monthly billing for services like server contracts, web site hosting, and co-location.

Also, I sometimes do work for people and split the cost over time. So monthly billing of $X over X months would be nice.

Another thing that I don't like about BlinkSale is if a customer overpays then the excess is just lost. It should add it as a credit for another payment or work to be done in the future. Or allow me to cut a check and fix the balance with a credit statement.

I downloaded Billings because Blink sale reporting isn't very good. I can't do things like see all the times a customer has paid late, and other trends to value the customer as good or bad. I have way too much work, and I like to drop customers if they don't pay on time every time for better customers.

Anyway, without monthly billing this product won't work very well for me. But I'll keep my eye on it.

I too, would love to see recurring billing. I am a web designer/developer and have several clients on hosting or monthly maintenance invoices.

If this was implemented then it would make Billings into a great package.

oh wow - this is now discussed for 5+ months and still no news? no comments from the devs during the last weeks?

I definitely would need such a feature.

My suggestion would be a free recurring config for each position. Possible options:

- every month on day x (like 5th of the month)
- every X monthd on day x (like on 2nd every third month)
- once a year on date x

Probably these billings should go into a special project "recurring billings" or something? I don't know exactly but it would be great if we could see a move here.

These things take time to implement right. If we ask for feedback, it does not necessarily mean that it is something we can implement in a short time frame.

The feedback is valuable so keep it coming.

Thanks.

Actually requests for this feature go back to at least to Dec 15th 2006. I registered and my first post was regarding this feature.

A little disappointed that it is still being 'discussed'.

Add me to the list for recurring billing, monthly, quarterly, yearly etc - the more features the better.

Also billing for blocks of time on the same schedule would be really helpful.

And yes some of us did ask a while ago! Can't wait till it comes out...

I would like to add my name to the list, recurring invoices sure would make my life easier. I am a Web Developer with a close to a hundred freelance clients, about half of which I allow monthly payments on the total bill, so recurring invoices for each client individually would be a great feature, I also have to send out annual bills to all of them for hosting. I have actually been looking at other invoicing software simply because billings is missing this.

Hope that helps. Awesome program, by the way. I've just started using it (after comparing it to a number of your competitors) and it's the best of the bunch.

I have exactly the same billing needs as Jesse. Monthly for maintenance and annually for web hosting. Currently I create a project in Daylite when I set up a new hosting account and set a reminder for 11 months later so that I can send the invoice one month in advance for the hosting renewal.
