When I am finished a project I click on the done buttons on my slips. Doing that displays the unbilled amount under Pending which is great... however when I send an invoice for for pending projects there is no way to clearly view at a glance which projects for that client have been billed. They simply stay in the project list as active.

Am I missing something?
Ideally it would be nice if their was an additional state called "Billed" along with the others such as "Estimate","Active", "Completed", and "Canceled". sending an invoice should then automatically change the State of a project to "Billed".

Let me know what you think?

But then what would happen when you add another slip?

You can just look over your projects list and make sure there is nothing showing up in the pending column. Does that work for you?

No this does work because other other active projects that have not been billed also show up so you cannot tell which one has been billed or not. The only wway to do it is actually click on each and every prject in the list and if there are no slips visible then you know it has been billed. Now, clicking through 50 active projects at a time is a big pain and wasted of time frowne

AJ makes a god point in what if what happens if another slip is added. Perhaps you can add another column called "Billed Total" or something e.g. (State, Project, Due Date, e.t.c.) Users can show/hide columns they choose just as they currently can by right clicking on one of those column names...

Let me know what you think?

Quick question - After I bill for a project the project remains active. If I add a payment for that project will the project automatically change it's state to "Complete".. I am lazy and and always forget to change a projects status.

Thanks in advance...

perhaps even display the unbilled amounts within in the pending colum but in a different color... just as you have it currently in blue... perhaps it could be yellow?? clicking on it could perhaps even send a statement...

Just a thought! Let me know what you think?

We do not change a project's status to complete once it has been paid. The idea is that it is left to you to decide when a project is entirely complete. You could just be waiting for the next phase of the project or something and not have any working slips, so we can't assume that it is complete.

I still don't quite understand your problem with the pending column. You said:

When you say that other active projects that have not been billed also "show up", do you mean that they show up in the project list at all? Or show up with a an amount in the pending column, rather than blank?

I don't think I quite understand your workflow right. For me, I would send an invoice for the pending amount, and then the pending amount would be blank, and it is easy for me to tell that I do not need to bill for that project by looking at the project list (wouldn't need to click on each one).

Thinking about it now, maybe what you mean is projects that have slips that are still incomplete? That would be something you cannot tell from the project list. I was thinking about providing an "incomplete" column, matching the "incomplete" amount in the bottom left box for a client.

Is that what you are looking for?

That is exaclty what I mean...
Projects with slips still incomplete display nothing under the pending tab AS DO projects that have been billed. So you cant really tell if a project or slip for that matter, has been billed or not... Does that make sense?

Been using Billings 3 now since it has been launched and it is quite frustrating not knowing which projects have been billed in the projects list for a client.

When I see a project that has nothing in the Pending column I assume it is a job that has not been completed. When I click on it and it has been billed their are no more slips visible in the slips area only the new working slip button. Now I cant remember if that project was completed or not or if it is a new job and I have not yet added any slips.

See where I am going??
To double check id it was billed I would need to go into the account section and try and locate it there to see if an invoice was sent. That is a whole other story because there is now easy way to identify a project in the accounts section because they are all either labelled "Payment" or the invoice number. So I am stuck clicking through all invoices until I find the project... and yes, it is chronological but I cant even remember when it was invoiced so does not help much.

The whole process could be better handled don't you think?

Anyone else have the same issue?

Notice that below each project name in the project list their is space for different items... i.e when you add a link or note it displays the link or note total below the project name in light grey... same applies to project status... if you make a project completed it displays "Completed" which is might be a bit pointless if you have the "State" column showing.

Anyways, the space below the project name could also perhaps be used to display any billed status. Suppose the trick would be when you bill per slip items... Am sure their must be a simple solution... perhaps as simple as a icon or a highlighting a row or text a different color to say hey.. this project has had something billed.

Hi Jimmy,

This is the solution we were thinking of. The bar at the bottom of the window that shows totals for slips should also show totals when multiple projects are selected, basically like you originally suggested, similar to Billings 2.5.

Would that be enough for you?

I think I finally understand your problem though - that you can't tell the difference between a project that has no slips because it is finished or a project that has no slips because it has not yet been started.

Couldn't you just look at the "Total" column in the projects list to tell if there is anything billed yet? If it is still zero, then the project must not be started. Make sense?

Had a quick think about it and you could add a column called Billed and display the billed total with the number of slips for an item.

i.e.
R540.00
3 of 5 Slips

Have uploaded a quick mockup of how I see this working to - http://www.cubamoon.com/billed.jpg

Let me know wha you think??

Hi Fraser,

When a project comes in I automatically add it as well as a slip with budget for that slip. I work with flat rates. This then displays the project total in the "Total" column so no, it does not help to look at the "Total" column unfortunately.

Any other suggestions?
