I use billings a lot during recording sessions and on location. I love the simplicity and the speed at which I can generate invoices.
It would be great to be able to add new contacts, start new projects and generate working slips from the iphone. Being able to add expenses would be great. Using the timer during sessions would also save me having to work it out later on. If all of this would synchronise to billings when I connect my iphone or via email later would make it much more convenient and save me lots of worry about loosing details of sessions. Your software makes my life easier. Thanks. Robwithhair |

Rob,
Out of curiosity - why would you want to add new clients and create new projects on the phone? Wouldn't it be better to do that on the desktop and then add slips to those on the phone? |

Yeah, creating and editing new clients and projects on the fly... bravo to you if you've got business coming in like that. But, for conversation's sake, the features in order of usefullness that I'd love to see in a port of Billings to the iPhone:
1) sync with Billings on the desktop 2) create and edit slips 3) creating estimates and invoices, sending them as pdf from the iPhone Mail app. 4) level of integration with Daylight Touch similar to the integration of the desktop apps (eg. create an estimate in Billings and it's linked to the contact in Daylight, linking/creating contacts and projects in Billings with those in Daylight) So that's my wish list in order from critical to wishful thinking; speaking of wishful thinking, I haz DMI in Daylight Touch? |

I would be also very interested by a light version of Billings on iPhone.

Lon,
Sending an invoice from the phone will not be feasible - unless you want real ugly ones. We certainly couldn't generate the high quality invoices we do on the desktop. Integration with Daylite Touch is also not realistic. There are limitations on the device that prevent us from doing certain things. Once again - we haven't made any decisions yet. We are exploring. |

Aj -
Yeah, I figured those last two were wishful thinking. I'd guess most would be well satisfied with a "pending total" by project. also, surely generating some of Billings reports, for viewing purposes only, must be within the iPhone's capabilities? |

It is unlikely that the entire database would be on the phone - that slow things down (i.e. start up).
What kind of reports would you want to look at on the road? |

Hi AJ,
No reports for me - all that is something I would do from the office. The biggest issues using Billings on my iPhone are things I need to do on the fly (eg, from a client's office, or on the road): (1) creating time slips, and recording time (and having that sync to the Mac) - this is the big one for me (2) making new projects, and possibly new clients To be able to then come back to the office and have the new information synced onto the desktop version of Billings would be great. Obviously, all current clients and projects would need to be downloaded onto the phone. Existing time slips and estimates would also be useful ... This is time critical for me |

Just a bump of approval!
I would most definitely pay for a native iPhone application. As was said many times, time tracking is the single most important aspect of my mobile use, I visit multiple sites each day and need to keep detailed records as to how much time was spent where doing what, etc... My current system (notes in my blackberry sync'ed with mail then c/p to billings) is severely lacking in ease of use and i cant stand duplication in my work... Why be doing something twice, but getting paid to do it once? All that being said, I would love to help test any future beta versions of the application. It would get quite the workout Thanks!!! |
