I'm pretty blown away by Billings, especially given how fed up I am with my current invoicing software (who shall remain nameless).

However, I find the reporting options to be mediocre at best.

Billings has categories, yet I cannot find any way to get a report on those categories, thus making them useless. For instance, I would like to know how much money I made doing "software installs" versus "hardware upgrades", which are my category names.

Secondly, there's no way that I can find, to simply view your monthly net income (gross - expenses). I had to instead view one report, jot down the gross total, make another report showing my expenses, and then manually calculate my net income. This seems like a very basic function, am I missing something?

Lastly, I would like to see better "at a glance" data. For instance when clicking on a client name and choosing "account status", I would expect to find things like "Collected this month" and "Collected total". Maybe also total number of projects (this month and overall). It would also make sense to show "total number of clients" at the bottom of the client list. Also, basic information like past due invoices, total balance, etc should not be hidden away in a report, but rather displayed when "All Projects" is selected.

Anyway, this is my wish list. Billings is a fantastic little program and I plan on switching to it permanently if all goes smoothly during my trial.

Thanks for reading.

Hear hear.. I'd love to be able to see, at a glance, my gross - expenses, rather than having to subtract it manually.. The way I've been doing my projects is creating a slip for the 'all-in' (the amount I'm billing the client for the project) and then creating expense slips that are 'my eyes only' and keeping track of my expenses (paying players, studios, whatever it be) but I can't find a way to automatically figure out what I've actually made on a project (net), or a way to report by quarter (or whatever) what my net is..

I agree. Reporting is the worst part about Billings 2. I sent an email to support while back and never heard back. When I got notification about the new release, I wanted to see if the reporting has improved. Looks like it has, but I am thinking of switching to something else.
