I number my invoices by Project Code - number. It has always worked in Billings 2.x. But now, in Billings 3, invoices show, "%projCode%-2132." I see the text in the Numbering preference pane has changed to say, "...%projectName% and %projCode% in estimates."

Why would you change this functionality to only work in estimates? Or am I incorrect? I can make the projCode appear properly on an estimate, but not an invoice.

This is a bit of a disappointment. The UI is pretty, but a key piece of functionality/usability has just been erased.

I use the same system for my invoices, this is a problem indeed.

We had pulled it during the beta but then added it back last minute - so it should still work for you even though the text says estimates only.

We pulled it because an invoice can have multiple projects now (for consolidated use), but found a way to add it back last minute.

Now if you have multiple projects linked to the invoice (via the slips) the project name will be separated by an under-bar. If you only have one project, you will not see an under-bar.

I tested this and it is working fine for me, so it is really just the text in the preferences that is wrong. Let us know if it isn't working and we will do our best to fix it for the next update.

I tested this, and it is not working for me. In the Numbering Pref pane, in the Prefix field for "Next Invoice," I entered: %projCode%-

However, in the Invoice dialog box, in the Details area, the text reads, "Invoice %projCode%-2132".

Upon previewing or printing the invoice, the Invoice number appears as: %projCode%-2132.

I have screencaps of this, if you need them.

I tested the functionality with Estimates, and the %projCode% tag works as it should. But it is not working with invoices.

Fraser, if it's working for you, should I try deleting my plist or something, or is there another workaround?

Thanks

Aha. I was only trying the "File Names" and not the Numbering prefix. I have reproduced it here and we will fix it for the next update.

Thanks for your feedback.

Note that this can get a little strange if you do send an invoice with multiple projects included. The invoice number would then need to be made up of multiple project codes, which would make it long and confusing. If you are using project codes in the invoice prefix, you may want to avoid sending consolidated invoices.

I can see where that could be a problem, but I have never (so far) had the need to send consolidated invoices, so it wouldn't be an issue for me.

When you say it will be fixed in the next update, do you mean Billings 4, or the next incremental update, like Billings 3.0.1, or something like that?

It will be fixed in 3.0.1, which should come out pretty soon.

3.0.1 is out now and this issue is fixed (and the confusing text corrected).

Grab it from website or go to the Billings -> Check For Updates... menu.

Thx.

Am I missing something here? I updated Billings yesterday to 3.0.1 and just sent my first invoice this morning. The invoice went out with the jumbled project code instead of the actual code (which showed up in the preview). I've edited the invoice in Acrobat Pro and resent it, but obviously the Billings update hasn't corrected this issue... or, am I missing something?
grtz.

Hmm, Rosanna. Seems you are right. The invoice number shows up fine during preview, but fails to be replaced on the actual invoice. We will address the problem again in the next update.

Thanks for your feedback and your patience.

We will probably put out a beta for you to try later today. It should appear at the top of the Billings forums.
