The Gizmo Project (a VoIP softphone using the standard SIP protocol) has just released an API that will "enable C++ developers to develop a voice client on... Mac OS X" which is based on Gizmo, and using the sipphone network.
So, (not being a programmer this may be way off), I'm wondering if it would be possible to build the VoIP client functionality right into DL as a plugin? (As opposed to the current methods where dialing from DL using JPT launches the Gizmo application.) If so, perhaps calls recorded using the VoIP client could automatically be linked to a contact as a file reference; incoming calls with CallerID could automatically bring up a Call Log window for the contact; etc. |

Yes! I would love to see the functionality implemented in Daylite3! This is exactly the type of cross-application integration that is extremely useful for users and shouldn't be that hard to implement.
Oh... if I only had the programming chops... Diablo943 |

If you have Jon's Phone Tool installed, and right-click on a telephone number in contacts, it can—apparently—dial the number directly. I had a trial version installed, which is why I see this. But I never found the time to see how JPT can use my landline, which the developer says is possible.
Since JPT can use a whole range of VoIP's, it would seem to be more value for money than DayPhone. But I would like to know more about landline use. |
