Is there a way to get all the data from the Estimate (in Opportunities) into a new Project (through "r-click "create project from opportunity") . Now I can't seem a way to do this ...

The estimate data in an opportunity does not carry over to the Project. You have the option to link all the contacts, organizations, tasks, appointments, and notes of the opportunity to the Project.

Hope this can be adressed in future updates as this is quite instrumental for many business' .

Quite amazing though , that "Opportunity" has all the bells and wistles as presented in "Estimates" , but that that panel is not simply carried over to a Project ... I also seem to have seen that you can't even link an Opportunity to a Project which would be a nice workaround .

Totally agree with Didier.

Estimates should be improved, IMO.

Concerning linking opportunities to projects:

I think the original thought on workflow was that you would create the opportunity, and if won it then would become a project.

As it is now you can create a project from an opportunity. You can do this by selecting the opportunity and going to the menu Create -> New project from opportunity . When you do this you have the option or carrying over all activity from the opportunity to the project without having to re-link them manually.

Our engineers are reviewing this process. We had feedback from customers and we're definitely taking that into consideration.

Feel free to add your two cents on how you think things should work. Or what would be best for your industry because of how things function.

Thanks for your feedback!

Indeed, you can carry over most of the info as you describe, I'm aware of this. But for non-time based business (maybe that's where Daylites roots lay ?) , essential data like the estimate are not carried over .

For quantity based business, mostly the estimate data won't change much when obtaining the order/project but it is the most essential part of the transaction.

As it is now , this info remains in "Opportunity" . This could be resolved to some extent by being able to link the project directly to the Opportunity (like you can link contacts, notes, .. etc) but from what I've been able to figure out this is not possible .

In fact basically I'd like to see the projectpanel as a duplicate of the Opportunity panel . (Personnally I don't use the Projects panel anymore as Opportunity carries all I need, but it doesn't seem logic I have to do everything in Opportunity also when bizz has already materialised ...)

I'll try to jot down my personal workflow in a follow-up post . Hope this helps .

Another question on the "estimate"-tip ;-) :

Where can one define the Extra Fields in the Estimate ? It doesn't take on the Extra Fields denomination of the extra fields definition in preferences

We don't create projects once the opportunity is won, but rather track the opportunities. We found it too cumbersome to re-enter all the data from the extra fields (which don't carry over). This has drawbacks though, since emails are no longer tracked once the opportunities are won.

I agree that the projects feature needs much improvement, specifically in carrying over data.

I'm for carrying over data too. Especially estimates, which I, quite frequently, want to refer back to.

Yes, we struggle with this all the time too. Our sales people create the estimates and I would like the people working on the project to have access to the final estimate which is essentially the order in the project. When I create and assign a project it would be nice to include that estimate page so the scope of the job is known

Hi
I also would love to carry over the estimates.
As reference, to do slight changes while the project is in progress and also to filter projects by their total.

Furthermore it would be great feature for more detailed project reports as well. I use to have "invoiced" as the last stage in the pipeline and close the project when the clients have payed. That way I can see, which invoices are unpayed at one glimpse. Having the invoices still attached, I could see the expected income, and also could send off revised invoices, delivery receipts, or payment reminders with one click.

I know, that this request competes a little with Billings, but it would ease so much to have access to that from one place. Taking this into account, I would be willing to pay for such an add-on.

Thanks for considering that feature.
best regards
