What am I missing/doing wrong here?
Evidently I cannot write a letter to an Organization? I can only write a letter to a Contact? (I could end up with a lot of John Does). My question is how do I find those letters again when they only show up in the Contact view? Three days from now I'm certain to have forgotten that I wrote a letter... I need a visual clue (the collection of stuff done for the the Organization) that the letter was written. Running DL v3.5 - David OS X v10.4.11 Daylite v3.7.6 (Build 1611) |

David,
I'm finding the same thing. Autosyncing letters is not an option in preferences under organizations, although notes is, and when you check the organization's window, it will show all activity for linked contacts in the activity pane, except for letters. Anyone have the answer to this? Jim |

Just bringing this back up to top to see if anyone can answer. Does anyone know why letters created in DL and sent through DL don't appear as activities for the contact and/or any linked orgs or projects like other activities do?

Just curious... You typically write letters to specific contacts within an organization. Why would it be expected that the letter to a specific contact be revealed under the Organizations?
Just as an added note, if you click on an Organization and choose to write a letter, it will create a letter for each contact linked to that Organization. Of course if you select one of those linked contacts and write a letter, only the selected contact gets the letter. I personally work directly with the contacts and generally not the Organization. Maybe you're workflow requires that you work directly with the Organizations. Just my 2¢ |

replying to my reply...
curious thing is... if you're viewing Organizations and click on a linked contact then write a letter, the letter is linked directly to the contact. but.. if you're viewing a Project, click on a linked contact, write a letter, the letter is linked to the project AND the contact. hmmmm A little counter intuitive. |

Clayton,
I found your latest post interesting in terms of how the linking with project and the contact, which adds to the original post's point. I, too, work mostly with contacts, but I would expect that since contacts are linked to organizations, that letters to/from linked contacts would also be tied to the organization. At the moment, everything, e.g. emails, etc.--except letters gets linked. I guess the underlying value is that if I have one or several contacts leave an organization, and for some reason I have to access a record of all correspondence or all correspondence within in specific period involving that organization, it's easier to find it all under the linked organization than to go back to each individual contact--current and past ones. So far I only use Daylite for Organizations, Contacts & Calendars. I do NOT use Projects, Opportunities, Groups, or Tasks. I use Appointments & Notes only in the context of Organization & Contact.
I expect it since everything else (appointments with individuals, emails to individuals, file references & notes for individuals to mention just 4 types of "document" that I use constantly) shows up in the Organization view.
I primarily work in the Organization view and the Contacts associated with that Organization. I primarily think first Organization, second an individual (Contact) at that Organization & thirdly the various Activities associated with that Organization. If I were to work in the Contacts view, how would I go about finding Contacts I've written letters to? From what I can see, I have to remember the individual to whom I've written a letter. This is obviously an untenable approach. - David OS X v10.4.11 Daylite v3.7.6 (Build 1611) |

You make a good point. I didn't think of it from a stand point of the contact leaving the company.
As a work around I WAS going to suggest to simply drag the letter onto the organization to link it there... BUT... it looks as if you can't drag linked letters from the Contacts activity view. So this leads to an interesting discussion... what do folks do when a contact leaves an organization and has a ton of letters, notes, etc linked to them that are related to that organization? |

Is there any wisdom on how to find letters? They're attached to a Contact. They (the letters) do not show up in Organization view along with the other document types (emails, notes, etc.). From what I know how to do so far, I have to go into Contacts view & then KNOW precisely who I've written a letter to. My memory simply isn't that good. Any help or workarounds? - David OS X v10.4.11 Daylite v3.7.6 (Build 1611) |

David,
I haven't found any. Marketcircle Team? Is there a reason that letters generated within Daylite are the only things that are not linkable to companies? As I asked in a previous post: What sense does it make to enable the automatic linking of emails and not letters? Both are just forms of correspondence. And many, many business people still use the letter format rather than an email for more formal communications. So, is it just an overlooked feature? or is there a rationale behind not allowing the linking of letters as detailed in these posts? Any response from MC is appreciated (even one I might not agree with or understand BTW, DL Pro is one of the best Mac project and CRMs out there. Can't imagine working without it. Even when things like this pop up. |

I am currently trying to prepare a serial letter to press contacts which I am not in touch regularly. Unfortunately, I am not able to merge these letters with organizations as aforementioned. But I do not want to clutter my contacts database with dummy contacts only to achieve this.
This problem seems to be online at least for two years. When will we get this simple feature? |

MarketCircle? Any answer out there for this simple question: Why are letters the only type of activity that can't be linked to organizations? Can we please find out whether this is just a missing feature (is so, hopefully it will appear in a future release) or a reasoned decision not to enable such a link? Replying would just take a minute; then we could stop bumping this topic up. Thanks for any assistance.

I did file a request with Marketcircle & they responded that yes they've been able to recreate the problem & that it might be corrected in a future release. Now hold your breath. - David OS X v10.4.11 Daylite v3.7.6 (Build 1611) |

Thanks for the update David. Here's hoping that MC deigns to give us what should be a very minor fix.
