Doug,
I'm still not sure that I really understand your specific problem, but perhaps someone else does. In any case, it looks like part of the issue might be that you're using DL in a context where you're making a relatively high volume of calls. My first inclination would be to agree with you that DL probably isn't optimized for this type of activity. I tend to believe that DL's primary strength is in its flexibility. For example, I utilize DL in two different businesses in very different ways. I think it's certainly possible that MC could add some features that might accomplish some of what you want, but my feeling is that you have a very specific workflow and you're expecting DL to adapt to that paradigm. As I said before, I use DL for two different businesses. In my experience, if you take the approach that you want to keep your workflow exactly as it is and have a piece of software integrate into that, your only real option is to have something custom built to your needs. Otherwise, you're always going to be left wanting feature X or Y because there's a good chance that 100% of your specific feature set isn't shared by the entire user base (either that, or you get a piece of bloat-ware like MS Office that has every feature under the sun, but they're so buried in the software that you have a problem performing basic tasks). On the other hand, you shouldn't have to totally change your way of working just to accommodate a piece of software. I've found that if you take the approach of modifying what you can control software-wise and make an attempt to modify your existing workflow to accommodate the things you can't change, you'll have much better results in the end. In any case, HTH. |

A tasks HUD to displaly contacts was plublished at http://www.daylitehelp.com/huds.html Has anyone tried it? I may in a month or so when I have a few momenents to spare. Probably worth buying just to see a real world example of a non-trivial HUD. I find it pretty strange that given the power of HUD, FSCRIPT, etc. all the examples in the Developer kit are so trivial that it is just about impossible to learn from the developers kit. |
