Hi all, have just found this software and fairly impressed so far (price is a little high and no discounts available...). Have tried the demo and went through the importing for iCal and Address Book but, like many, I have no wish to import everything from Address Book - including Granny!

iCal was fine as I could specify which calendar to include but why is this not an option for Address Book (or am I missing something)? And please, I have searched - went back over 18-months and found lots of posts that all seemed to carry the same answer 'we are building this in to Daylite and hope to have it in place by the end of the year etc' these go back to 2006 though! Has anything changed since then with better integration with Address Book?

I use Address Book quite a lot for sycing to my mobile phone and so on so the integration with Daylite is very desirable. Hopefully I have missed something and this, most basic of requiorements, is there but I need poining to the right way to achieve it!

Many thanks, Mike

I don't sync to a mobile device so someone else will have to answer that part of your question, but setting up DL to sync with specific contacts in AB is straightforward. Simply use DL preferences/synchronization to set DL to sync with Daylite Group in AB rather than entire AB. In AB, simply drag the contacts you want into a Daylite Group. Those will be the only ones that sync with DL. Hope this helps with one part of your question.

Hi mike
All syncing is handle through sync services. As for as mail is concerned, I have all my contacts in DL. I use the categories feature to keep my personal from biz. Same with calendars. DL is a replacement for AB and iCal, not a add on. i sync to my iPhone ,used to have a Treo 650 and syncing works quite well. The support is also awesome. Jist keep asking ?s as they come . This forum and Marketcircle is great.

Thanks to both of you for comments - can I check, when you first set up DL you tick the box to bring in Address Book (it does not allow you to select groups) so do you do this first and import everything then set up the Daylite group in Address Book for ongoing sync purposes? Then, in DL, delete all the records you do not want (Granny etc.,!)?

I have just had a frantic 2-hours where I managed to trash all of my contacts in Address Book! What a fiasco it was - noticed that all of my data was still intact in Daylite so chose the export vCards. This managed to export everything but wiped all of the data apart from the standard name and address - all my notes had gone! What's worse was the process to export vCards seems to wipe the relevant records form DL! Arghhh. Managed to reset everything and sync back to my .Mac connection so relief allround. Have taken many backups now to be sure :-)

So, back to the start. New database with DL and must get the import/sync correct this time! Any help with how to do this would be great.

Thanks again, Mike

Mike,

I haven't started from scratch for a while, but I imagine that the best thing would just be to not sync AB when you first create your database. After the database is created, you can go into preferences/synchronization and you can initiate your first sync from there. Choose Daylite Group rather than import all contacts. I don't remember whether DL creates a group folder in AB or if you need to create that in AB first and populate it by dragging and dropping contacts. Sorry about that. Probably the worst is that DL will tell you no Daylite Group exists if you try the former first and it's not correct. If so, then just go to AB and create and populate the DL group, go back to DL and sync. I think a majority of people on the forum sync the entire AB, but like you, I only sync business contacts from AB and leave personal contacts in AB.

Hi Jim, many thanks for this - did as you said and created a new database without the AB sync. Then enabled Sync but to the Daylite Group (this was already in Address Book after the previous efforts). Now everything syncs fine between both apps and happy with the results.

Have to say this was a bit of a long-winded and unintuitive approach to importing a particular subset of contacts. Perhaps I took the wrong route but, for me at least, the DL app was rather lacking in direction for the task.

Right, now that I have this part completed off to explore the rest of it!

Thanks again, Mike
