Stop teasing us AJ smile Tell us, your loyal clients, all the gory details.

"...hopes to make it available to customers later this year" is just too vague. I still have bitter memories of swallowing the marketing hype when Palm (remember them?) bought Organiser from Claris to be the Mac interface. I rushed out and bought a Palm Pilot and then waited a verrrrry loooong time before the software was released.

So fess up AJ - everyone wants to hear all about this.

And while I'm here, will Billings be included on the iPhone - that is a must-have for many of us I'm sure

cheers

yes, AJ - this looks exciting. Reading the article it said "later this year" which made my heart sink...

I know you had something cooking for a while now - it started with your early enthusiasm for the iphone. Well, the screenshot in the article tells me that this might be a truly useful tool for organization and keeping in touch with the office whilst on the road. Cool stuff!

Please, don't wait until "later this year" - use the momentum of the Iphone 3G launch to get this out!!!

Cheers,

Christian O

The server will be licensed per device (iPhone or iPod Touch). Daylite Touch users will need to connect to the server application to be able to sync their Daylite data to and from the phone.

So single-users will need to purchase a single-user license for the server application.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

What's the point of saying the iPhone Daylite app is free if everyone has to buy the server app?

We decided to do licensing on the desktop for a multitude of reasons – one of which is to simplify licensing and administration for multi-user clients.

The free download on the App Store is a demo of Daylite Touch, so users can see what the app is like. To sync it with their computer, they'll need a single-user license.

All of this can possibly change before release.

OK, so the "free" comment is bait to get you to demo the software? That's fine, but is there any chance that current users will get some sort of discount? One of the main reasons I moved our group to DL was for smartphone syncing, which will now cost us extra? Sounds like DL is being treated as a suite, a la Microsoft Office: perhaps you should offer a bundle price/install for DL, DMI, Daylite Delivery, iPhone Touch, etc. Having to buy each of these for our group is becoming tedious, not to mention keeping track of licenses, upgrades, etc. Then again, that's why I'm the IT manager. I just hope you guys price this thing right.

It's hardly "bait". That's how all demos work. These days users expect to be able to try software and then determine if they want to purchase it. The only way that we can offer a demo of Daylite Touch is by offering it for free on the App Store.

You'll still be able to sync with your iPhone like you do now. None of that will change. This new product, however, is significantly more advanced than just syncing information. It's essentially a mobile version of Daylite.

We haven't decided on pricing yet, but licenses will definitely be reasonably priced.

You shouldn't expect Daylite Touch to be cheap. It will be competitively priced when compared with other mobile business apps or this magnitude. If you want cheap or free, then you should stick with our current sync services solution.

Consider the investment we are making - the number of engineers, the amount of time and other resources required.

It always amazes me how people expect us to give things away for free.

OK, so it's not a free version, it's a demo plain and simple. Just trying to understand the article/press release. I guess I underestimated that this was essentially a new app instead of an improvement to existing functionality. I don't like using the current sync services, and had hoped that they would be improved on. I'm glad you're dedicating so many resources to creating a new app, so I guess paying more for it won't be so ridiculous. I'd still like to see an upgrade price or a bundle price.

AJ I totally understand and agree with your viewpoint. Daylite itself is very well-priced, actually considerably cheaper than products such as Act, GoldMine and Maximizer, the standard CRMs on the Wintel platform. On the Mac, there is nothing that approaches Daylite in overall functionality in anywhere near the price range. (The competition I have seen may in some cases have somewhat better eye candy, but when you get into the nuts and bolts of their software, they come up short.) So no, you shouldn't consider giving anything away or lowballing the price for the Daylite Touch offering.

I suggest you do a careful survey to help determine a price-point that the majority of your users could handle that will also fairly compensate you and your creative teams for the hard work you put into the product.

I for one appreciate the heck out of what you are doing.

I for one support Marketcircle charging for the app. You tell'em AJ! Why on earth would Marketcircle *not* charge?

Will DayLite Touch sync with the iPhone via "hardwire", or will it HAVE to sync remotely via wireless?

Apple has given no way to sync via the wire.
The only way to sync is wirelessly, which we will do via either wifi/edge/3G, which ever the phone wants to use.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you would want to sync via the wire and not wirelessly?

BTW, I don't have an iPhone and don't plan on buying one. Don't like AT&T or their rates. But I just got an iPod Touch and will LOVE to use that to access DL via WiFi.
