Hi guys,

I am trying to use fields from forms in merged letters. I haven't got very far because I can't seem to even be able to merge a letter from a form.

When I click on a form in the Forms tab of a project and choose Action -> Merge -> Write Letter in Daylite, it asks me to choose a contact but there are none in the list. The project certainly has contact(s) so what's going on here?

Many thanks,
Galen

I found this on the MarketCircle web site and found it to be helpful;

What are the merge keys for form fields?
The merge keys for a form field are structured as such,

<$form.NameOfFormField$>

So for instance if you have a form field named, Hair Colour, the merge key would be,

<$form.Hair Colour$>

You must also perform the merge operation from the Action menu (gear pop-up button) from within the Forms & Fields tab of the information card. Highlight the form you would like to merge. Select the Merge With Form option (from the gear pop-up button) and then select the Contact you would like to use for the Merge. The contact which is selected will make their details available to the merge as well.

NOTE: This only works with built in editor. It will not work with external apps such as Word, Excel or OmniGraffle. To use merge keys for external applications, refer the 'Merge keys for external applications' article.

There is no "gear" menu and I simply cannot get this to work. When I do a merge, it asks me to select a contact but there are none to select.

I really need this functionality.

Thanks again,
Galen

Hi Galen,
Because merge letters are items that are sent to Contacts, the sheet that drops down is asking you to select one of the Project's linked Contacts to merge a letter to. If the Select a Contact sheet is empty, that's indicating that the Project doesn't have any linked Contacts. So you'll want to link a Contact to your Project, then you'll be able to merge a letter to that Contact.

Hope this helps,
Cynthia
