Daylite's power scares me. Way more depth than what I need (I think)... sales, contacts, letters, labels, calendar, list management, iphone support. But I need something more powerful than AddressBook for sure. Am using Now Contact and waiting for vaporware Nighthack, but is there anything in between?
I have a non techie office manager, and if it is not straight forward, I will spend more time holding her hand, that I might as well do it all myself, of course, this is not the goal. So any feedback out there on Daylite, can it run as a simple list manager after import of data? Have heard rumors that all kinds of complex relationships need to be built for the product to go. Thanks. Russ |

Hi Russ,
Daylite is indeed a feature-rich database but you can easily use it for just Contact and Calendar mgmt. Simply ignore the other areas (Projects, Opportunities, Groups, labels, letters, etc) until the time comes where you might want to begin using them. Maybe that time will be never!...no reason at all why you should feel pressured to use them just because they exist. The beauty of Daylite is that it can be as bare-bones or complex as you want it to be. Thanks Cynthia,
Attempted the download, but upon install, warning says that Notes field is not supported. Can this be so, Notes are crucial aspect of our workflow. Is this true for latest version? Russ |

You bet Russ.
Do you mean the part in the installer's Read Me that talks about syncing Notes? Daylite can, if you desire, sync it's data with Address Book, which doesn't have a Notes table, so Notes that you put into Daylite's Notes section have nowhere to go in Address Book. I believe that's what you're reading about? Yes, that is where I saw the notification re notes. Hmmm.. I expect the Daylite folks are looking for a way around this, yes?
Kind of a deal killer for me and Daylite (for now). Its always something... Russ |

The folks at Daylite are currently working on an application to go on the iPhone, called Daylite Touch (www.daylitetouch.com). This will be like a mini-Daylite for the iPhone. Since it hasn't been released yet, we don't have a complete list of features, but here's hoping! :-)
Meantime...while Apple's Address Book doesn't currently support a Notes table, it does have a *single* Note field per Contact (unlike Daylite which has a related table of *unlimited* Notes per Contact). In order to get some semblance of Notes into Address Book, Daylite has a Details field for each Contact that will sync to Address Book's single Note field: if you double-click a Contact in Daylite, look at the bottom left and you'll see a button. If it says Show Details, click it to open the sync-able Note field, which will splay out to the left of the Contact's edit card. Data that you put in that Details field will sync to the Contact's single Note field in Address Book. Ok, tried install again, since there might be a workaround for notes field.
Won't run, a trial version I downloaded last year is preventing me from running the new trial download. Alert says to purchase the software. So it goes... |

Hi Russ,
The trials are good for 30 days, so the one that you download has used up it's 30 day period. You can extend the trial period by going to: http://store.marketcircle.com click Daylite and you'll see that you can purchase a 30-day extension to your original trial period. If you're in the US, the cost is only $19 USD.
