I just got an e-mail from MobileMe that I "must" upgrade to the new MobileMe calendar by 5/5. What is Marketcircle doing to meet that deadline for fixing the sync glitch?

after giving up on waiting for market circle to fix this i downgraded to the calendar recently. now i'm already dreading may 5th. daylite touch is not a solution for me. i need to be able to sync calendars with my other ios devices and macs and running daylite and daylite touch is just not doable.
ANY word from marketcircle would really help put me at ease about the coming months. |

Hi Alex, May I ask why Daylite Touch will not work for syncing calendars to multiple macs and iOS devices? Just need to understand the reason why so that we can learn from this. Thanks! Amin |

Just wanted to acknowledge your inquiry and say that I don't have any new information other than our blog post about this a while back but if any new news is available we will certainly share it via the blog. Thanks! Amin |

Amin- This is an entirely insufficient answer to a well-known issue that Marketcircle has stopped just short of denying i.e. you have acknowledged it but still have no answer for it. The blog post you refer to was 5 months ago, which was in turn 5 months (or more?) after the problem started with Apple's beta release. |

I hear what you're saying Aaron but I cannot manufacture an answer. When there is more info I can share I will do so.
Thanks, Amin |

It looks pretty simple! The "bug" is good way selling daylite touch, or? It's really bad renting a daylite touch for 49Euro a year, yes everything is in Europe more expensive, and having the feeling you have to rent it because otherwise you can't use the daylite calendar on your iphone or ipad. The really bad is the fact, I can't use any other calendar app on my iphone and I can't use the mobileme calendar in the web. Since the BETA we never got an answer from marketcircle about an estimate timeframe... Sounds not like a respectful work with clients... sorry, I am disappointed! |

Rather than start another thread on the topic, I hope it is OK to chime in here.
I would like to make a "feature request" that someone at Marketcircle provide an update with some definitive information on this problem. Apple has been pushing the new calendar for quite a while. Marketcircle's response to this has not bee a "blog" (which implies status updates) but rather a notice which is now quite old. The notice only tells up NOT to upgrade. In a few months, that will no longer be an option. Frankly, once the new calendar system goes into effect, Daylite will technically become incompatible with the current version of OS X. The only solution offered thus far by Marketcircle is to disable the Apple product and purchase a Marketcircle product to work around the bug. The notice offers no real assurance that any other solution is being worked on or will ever be offered. "Looking into possible solutions" and "may take us a while to get up to speed" is a far cry from "we are committed to fixing our software and expect to have a solution prior in a reasonable time frame." It is certainly Marketcircle's prerogative to offer "touch" as the only solution. However, it would be nice if use lowly users knew if any other option can be expected prior to the May deadline. The long silence on the subject seems to indicate that it will be "touch or nothing." With no other options in sight, are we supposed to spent the next two months checking out Daylite Touch vs. other CRM solutions. I really like DL and have invested quite a bit of time and effort to get things set up properly. I don't relish the thought of migrating to another solution, but the convenience of being able to use iCal is enough to make me look at other options. If you are going to fix the problem, great. If you are going to fix it before the deadline, even better. If you are going to rely on Touch as a workaround, that is your prerogative and I respect that. Whatever the decision, PLEASE let your customers know what the heck is going on so we can plan accordingly. We have been held in limbo for too long. |

I use both Daylite and Daylite Touch. Daylite Touch is not a viable substitute for synching calendars via the MobileMe cloud. With Apple's announcement, Market Circle needs to address this issue quickly.

I'll chime in as well, but from a different perspective (note: this will likely seem like I'm defending Marketcircle to some of you, which, for some reason, seems to be frowned upon by some forum members - if you're one of them, don't bother reading the rest of this post!)
Apple had pushed a lot of developers to adopt their sync technology (called "SyncServices"), which a lot of applications (Daylite among them) used to sync calendars & data between applications. This worked great and seamlessly (put something in Omnifocus/iCal, in a few seconds it also shows up in Daylite, and vice versa). Then Apple did the so-called "upgrade" to MobileMe; this "upgrade" suddenly caused most of my calendar data being deleted - didn't know why. After some investigations I discovered that what Apple did was to abandon SyncServices, which caused all the data that was originally syncing with it to be deleted (instead of simply being left alone), all this without telling developers or even warning their own users (that's you and me folks) of the loss of functionality (which many other users were also unfortunate to discover). Besides us users being neglected/ignored by Apple on this massive and incompatible change in functionality, Marketcircle isn't alone in this boat - the folks that make Contactizer, OmniFocus and apparently even Microsoft got bitten by this, and it seems Apple has remained silent on developers' queries about fixing this, which suggest that they've abandoned their developers (Marketcircle,Omni,MS, etc.) to fend for themselves for a fix to Apple's "upgrade" of MobileMe. What I'm basically getting at is that while Marketcircle has unfortunately been unable to have a solution to this yet, Apple is certainly not blameless in all of this - they've abandonned a technology they've pushed developers (and by extention, us users) to adopt, and have deflected blame (which Apple seems to be getting good at doing these days, ie. antennagate) and left developers high and dry on this. It would've been nice from Apple to also acknowledge this, and how/if they would help developers transition us users over to their new system, instead of pretending it never existed. As for me, I promptly abandoned MobileMe (aka. MobileMess in my view) and have gone with a Daylite Server/Daylite Touch setup only; it works perfectly for us, and I don't see the point of paying $99 for an Apple product which loses functionality with each "upgrade". And this setup ends up costing me less in the end. Obviously, Touch might not be a solution for all others, and I certainly hope Marketcircle will come up with a solution so that I'm not forced back into Apple's awful online service "upgrades". Come on! What is this for a statement? You aren't aware, we are having a problem which disturb our work and I am not in the mood for kidding anymore. Sorry, I expect help and information about this problem. |

I think what Amin is getting at is that a proper solution can't be rushed (am I right in interpreting your statement, Amin?) and that developing it probably takes more time than Apple has given developers. |

Tombali, The last thing I want to do is offend anyone or trivialize their situation. Daylite is just as important to me as it is to you because I use it all day everyday and so does my staff. Despite the fact that I added a smiley to my post and stated the obvious, I was 100% serious about what I wrote. You want this problem solved quickly, but that's like saying to mechanic fix my car quickly. It CAN be fixed quickly but if the proper steps aren't taken the result can be disastrous. It is precisely because this issue is disturbing your work that we have to make sure our solution does not disturb it further. This is SUCH a delicate thing because syncing involves so many variables. That's all I was saying. If we have additional info that can help you carry on your business with as little interruption as possible we will certainly share. Amin |
