Hi, I have noticed since upgrading to the latest version 10.7.4 that DMI and Daylite don't seem to be working very well and I keep getting:
'The connection to Daylite has timed out. You may have to restart Daylite and you may also have to restart Mail.' Basically Mail and Daylite both freeze and I get the colour wheel. Does anyone know why this happens and if there is a fix. It makes DL and Mail pretty unusable as it effectively crashes both apps and the only way to get them going is to restart the machine and then the apps. I am using the latest version of DMI, Daylite and Mail. I also use MobileMe and sync with iCAl and Address Book (don't think this is relevant here). Thanks in advance, Simon |

What's probably happening is that your Daylite database connection is getting hung for some reason (are you connecting locally or to a remote database?); this causes DMI (hence Mail) to wait for a reply from Daylite, which causes the 'freeze' you see.
I believe the root of the problem is the database connection getting dropped or something similar; this can happen if, for example, you're connected through wifi and switch wifi networks (or something similar). Have you experienced similar problem while using Daylite alone (no Mail running)? Need help in Daylite or Billings? Check the Help menu for Apple Help documentation. |

Thanks Sebastien - your explanation makes sense. I am connecting through wifi, but have not had this problem unti the upgrade. Could it be somehting to do with the openbase permissions? Since the upgrade each time I start my iMac I have to give permissions for open exec etc. I think I should add openexec and openinfo to the firewall in system preferences, but cannot find them anywhere through spotlight or in teh library...do you think this could be the reason DL is crashing?
I will test it today to see what happens if I run DL without Mail. I must admit this was my first upgrade (3.7.3 to 3.7.4) and it was difficult to follow the instructions - may just be me, but all the instructions were for different upgrades, ie not from 3.7.3, also there was no mention of what to do to stop the 'allow openexec' etc messages coming on startup. I sent the crash report to Matthew and Sean in support - would it help if I emailed it to you Sebastien. Thanks for your help. |

I worked quite happily with both open today for a few hours and then the same problem. It seems that Mail looses its connection with DL and then can't get the connection back. I must admit it is causing me some real problems as I have to restart everything (the iMac) and start again...then there is not telling how long it will take before the same problem happens again.
Strangely - I clicked the 'connect to daylite' button in mail and this time it seems to have reconnected. Any help is much appreciated. Best wishes, Simon |

I'm having the same problems. DL crashes several times a day. Taking down Mail. Spinning death ball, etc. I just had to force quit DL after attempting to print an enevlope. Though Mail eventually gave me the error message. The database is on this computer.

This might help in resolving some possible causes of crashes. Need help in Daylite or Billings? Check the Help menu for Apple Help documentation. |

Thanks for this Sebastien - unfortunately none of the probable causes apply to me.
Matthew has suggested that I intall 3.7.5 and when I get a moment (!) I will install and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for your help. Siphoto - may be a good idea to send a log of one of the crashes to technical support - they are very responsive. |
