Hi Christian,

While there are a few commercial options for Daylite hosting, I would consider using an in-house machine as your Daylite server. Lot's of reasons why and if you'd like to discuss it further drop us a line any time. A headless Intel mac mini on your network makes a great Daylite server. Heck, even a used G4 or G5 would be fine for 2 concurrent users. Releasing control of your database and being at the mercy of the internet should be a last resort.

For a 2 man operation I'm not sure that remote hosting is the most cost effective option.

If either of the machines are desktops (or static), I'd use that one as the 'server'.

If you are both mobile, get hold of a macmini + put it at the end of reliable internet connection with a static IP. If your both using offline databases, it's not going put much strain the hardware.

I have some similar questions as I am thinking about purchasing Daylight. I am a one map shop. I need something to use when I am away from the house. Daylite looks awesome for organizing myself at home, but I need to be able to use something when I'm remote. Right now I have a windows laptop. I am thinking about getting an iphone to replace laptop for most of the remote email and PIM type access I need. So the main question is, what will I need to do in order to work with my Daylite database? Is the only option to run some kind of server at home and if so, will that only run on a mac platform and does that server cost any additional money over the cost of Daylite?

Hi Dewdman42,

Daylite is a Mac only program and at this time, Daylite on the iPhone is still a work in progress.
Our Licensing and price work on the number of concurrent users connecting to the same database at one time. While you can install Daylite on as many machines you want, one license gives one user access to the program and database.
Do you currently have a Mac Desktop or a Laptop?

Thanks!
