Hi,

Why is it I can repeat an appointment (unlikely) and NOT repeat a task (required).

Am I missing something?

Update:

I've just gone through previous posts and it seems this is something that is missing. I can't believe MC haven't added this feature. This is massive oversight.

Is there any other way I can have a repeating message reminding me to do such tasks as wages every fortnight? Or taxes every quarter?

I agree, this is a "deal breaker". Unless we can do these sorts of repeated tasks, we won't be investing in Daylite.

I agree, the lack of repeating tasks is a dealbreaker. Imagine running a business and not being able to schedule reminders to "pay taxes", "prepare payroll", "board meeting", etc.

On top of that, my publishing business requires a certain set of repeating todos which involve updating our web site on a daily, weekly and monthly basis which we want to be able to view in a recurring "set". Daylite helps with none of this unless you consider "workarounds" which is unacceptable.

Yes, not having a repeat function on the Tasks really sucks. I hope they add this feature very soon. It is hard to run a business without it.

I have asked about this ability (repeating tasks) for about a year now. It seems never to get added and it seems to be very low on the MC list of things to add. Perhaps they've decided just not to bother with it! I can't believe that more people find this unacceptable. And MC says you can in the meantime use repeating appointments. Obviously they just don't get the difference. It needs to be a task because:

- it really can be done anytime that day (if you follow and aggree with GTD basic premise that you should ONLY add actual timed events to your calendar - this is important)

- it MUST rollover to the next day if you don't do it the day it's scheduled for. This is critical to not lose the action (task) and leave it undone.

I was stupid enough to buy DL before realizing that it didn't have this function. I've had it just under a year I think. I can't use this app because of this major ommission. I'm still stuck in Chronos Personal Organizer. The first PIM that has repeating tasks I will switch to. I can't believe this is taking so long. My whole life is full of repeating tasks. If anyone out there hads found a PIM that has this capability, please post here.

Thanks.

I am REALLY with you on this Karen. Unfortunately, the same behaviour of not adding what seem to some of us to be absolutely fundamental features has occurred a few times.

Sure, it might just be you and me. But for several years now, I have been suggesting a way to find out what is important and to how many people - ask ---- by having a function on the Marketcircle site where people can input (into a survey) what seem to them to be good ideas and people vote.

Seems to me that Marketcircle is already so excellently client-centered that this as a hole just begging to be filled.

Hi Guys,

I'm glad to see I'm not alone on this. I think all users and potential users should hammer Market Circle until this addressed. I've gone to the trouble of setting up a database only to find it simply doesn't do the same as iCal which comes free with all the Macs in the office.

Surely if MC are wanting to push their software to a wider audience they need to be doing at least the same as the Mac software does and much more.

Until this addressed we won't be purchasing the software which is a real shame as Daylite seems to be t he only product for mac that comes close.

We are Microsoft distributors and as such are able to get all the Microsoft products including the MS CRM software. The software requires exchange which is somthing we don't want to delve into but if MC doesn't address this issue we may have to jump ship.

The fact that the Knowledge base shows this has been an ongoing issue for a long time doesn't fill me with much confidence in MC. Come on guys, if Apple can do it surely it's possible.

Repeating Tasks would be handy, I have to admit.

However, for things like reminders for tax payments, payroll and such, why not just enter an Event? Enter it like an appointment, but select event from the drop-down icons. It 'marks' it on the calendar, you can have a reminder and have it repeat and it doesn't require a specific time. About the only thing (that I can think of) it won't do is carry forward. But, for me, this is extra incentive to git 'r done!

I use this for all my repeating appointments, birthdays and anniversaries, tax due payments, subscription renewals and things like that.

Not carrying forward is a huge drawback, but the event workaround is the best solution in the interim.

Since DL went to v3, they've -- in my opinion -- taken away one of the best parts of its original interface: the split view that allowed display of the calendar (which a user could set to a single day for space reasons) and the task list (with all its glorious columns of information) simultaneously. The due list is an ill-conceived and totally useless feature for me. Most of my tasks have link details that are integral to knowing what the task is. For example, the task name may be Call Client, but it's linked to a project or opportunity, which lets me know which client. Having to click on a task in the Due List to see the details is very weak.

As a result of this change, I never see my calendar and task list at the same time, and having a task set as an event is likely to be overlooked. Back to the original point, if it doesn't carry forward and I spend most of my time in DL looking at tasks, an event getting overlooked is a problem.

Just a thought: if your monitor is big enough, it is possible to open 2 or more browser windows so you you could see your calendar in one and tasks in another.

Also, to help with screen real estate, you could hide the Lists pane on the left and the toolbar on the top to make the windows as small as possible. I sometimes use one window with all the toolbars etc. open and another with it all hidden and they both fit nicely.

Howard

Inability to repeat items like appointment reminders and tasks was a dealbreaker for me as well. THis is an absolute MUST! I also had a few other gripes that apparently were low on the priority list for updates, so I elected not to purchase after the trial. Just checking back in now several months later to see if anything has changed and obviously it hasn't.

Hey Mike,

Well done. That's a great work around and much less stuffing around than what daylite recommend.

Software vendors need to understand people are time poor and if it can't be done quickly, simply and effectively people won't use it.

Please MC, it's just one button. banghead

I'm just catching up on my reading and while I agree that repeating tasks are long overdue, I think that perhaps you are being too hard on MarketCircle.

Having done development, Systems Analysis, Product Management, etc. for a variety of software applications, there are times when something as 'simple' as repeating tasks is not so simple to implement because of the code involved.

One of the other 'major' issues is sync services. Personally I want both to be implemented in the next release. My customers have been asking for both. From a developer's perspective, how do you implement both at the same time?

I want a repeating task and I'm using Teams. I want to see tasks sync with all members of any team they are associated with. I don't believe we currently have that functionality, it is required.

I make a change to a task that is a 'Team' task. I want the change to be synced to every members PDA. But I only want the change made to this week's repeating occurrence, not to all in the series (i.e. task is 'do payroll on Monday' and next Monday is Christmas so move the task to Tuesday).

Now I want to change the entire series of another repeating task. This change must also be included in the next sync.

And so on, and so on.

So it is not "just one button".
