Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a task to a appointment. I do not like it when someone attatch a task to me, and I don´t have the ability to have it besides my appointments in the calendar so a can get a visual overview of my day.

I would like to do this to.. and still keep the to do active incase I don't get the appointment done..
Anyone know if it can be done now? I have emailed MC to ask if they can add it as an easy option in the future. |

Hi Redvald
Don't know if this would help you, but in your calendar view, if you click on the button with the pin icon on the top right hand side, you get a panel with your tasks alongside the calendar. That sounds like it would give you exactly the visual overview of the day you're looking for. HTH Nick |

Well, no.
I use this tasklist today, but It does not give me what I want. It would have been really cool if I could take a task from that list and drag it in to the calendar and place it on the time where i would do it ... or, if I could choose to let tasks with date and time also show up in the calendar, not only in the task list. |

I too use that list, but I may have a to-do that could take an hour to do, and you really need to schedule that kind of time. Being able to convert or drag a to-do to the calendar saves having to:
-reset up linked people/org -copy notes - copy the title/subject etc It would be a great asset |

It's not 100% what you are asking for, but if you mark the task as DONE from it's editing window, you get the option (at the bottom) of setting a "Next Action", which, among other things, can be to create a follow-up appt. It does transfer the title of the task to the title of the appt. as well as the links. Alas, it does not transfer the details though. Sounds like a worthy item for feedback to MC.

I also have to add my voice to the chorus, re. dragging a task to the calendar to add or convert it to an appointment.

Quick question for you all: Would you prefer that the task turn into an appointment with a duration (for instance, half an hour), that starts where you drag it (say, if you drag it to 9:00 AM, it becomes an appointment from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM); or would you prefer that the task simply get slotted in at a certain time (say, the task becomes something simply to be done AT 9:00 AM).
Thx adam |

Hi Adam,
I'm not sure what you mean by "slotted in at a certain time". How would it appear if it didn't have a duration? Regards, Howard |

I would want it to have a duration time, preferably the default appointment time ie 1 hr, or a custom "To-Do default time" ie 30 min
As I said, I would really like it if the to-do stayed active in the to-do list as well, so if it doesn't get done it can be carried forward on the to do list... |

I just noticed a new option: with the new contextual menus, you can point and control-click on a task and choose "New Follow-Up Appointment for...." and the new appt. sheet comes up with the connected title and the links in place - again still without the task details transferred from the task. Creating the appointment from the task in this way leaves the task status un-changed.

Hi Adam,
Your first option sounds the best to me, but I agree it might be good to leave it in the task list to be there for the next day. But if the taskconvertedtoappointment is marked as completed, could it then automatically mark the task as done and then removed from the to do list? |

This looks like a very nice approach... |

You guys are on the right track for sure. In all seriousness, what you are looking for is ACT6.0 functionality. I am a new Mac user and a long time ACT user. ACT has EXACTLY what you need.
A task is considered as a Calendar item, you set a date and a reminder time and that is it. The task shows up on your calendar just like an appointment. This way if you have a task at a certain time you can schedule your actual appointments around it. I find this part of DL3.0 cumbersome in comparison. If the DL Team is monitoring this thread please try a copy of ACT. You will find the flow easy and one to mimic. It will make your customers very happy. |

Jdoom:
ACT is *not* something to emulate. It does have good features, but treating a task as a calendar item is not one of them. A task, it just that, a task. An appointment is a task at a specific time. Very distinctive between the two. It would be better to have a clean way to convert from one to the other. *********************************** Macsimum News |
