Is there a way with Smart Lists to always show a hierarchical list expanded (e.g. Tasks with subtasks). I hate in the Tasks window when I leave and come back having to re-open a deeply nested.

Any one?

I did find if I hold the option key when clicking on a triangle it opens (expanded) that tree.

Deep sympathies - I've been requesting this feature for months and months. I eventually gave up using DayLite for task management.

I know the feeling. Daylite has great potential but it very difficult to model anything complex with it.

I would really like it to remember the state of expansion. Without this using hierarchies is just painful as switching back and forth from views requires me to set the whole damn thing up again. I am using these hierarchies as a workaround already for not having other functionality. Ugh!

You either have to have very flat hierarchies or attempt to use groups (which has the same problem).

Also there is no summation or executive summary at the higher levels. I guess I shouldn't expect it to have project planning features (although it kinda does).

Daylite is an odd fish... I so want it to work but I am still waiting for functionality. I keep playing with it every couple of months trying to model some workflows but never being able to do it with real examples.

When they implement:

1. Batch creation of opportunities/projects with pipelines.
2. pipelines with activity sets per stage and visibility of tasks only within a stage
3. hierarchical opportunities/projects (at least one level deep) that reports high level status of all its children.
4. hierarchical smart groups (so I don't have to use a clumsy naming conventions).
5. Ability to share smart lists with other users

I will be all over this app.

cheers

What are you using for task management currently if not Daylite? We are still using SugarCRM which is not my favorite. I think I have tried all the free, open source, groupware solutions.

As a personal contact/task system it works just fine. It just doesn't scale with a team setting.

This ability to expand or create hierarchical Tasks in Tasks is great, but it's a shame this is all it does. As you can see there is no where else in the program that provides you any indication your Tasks are part of the hierarchy you set up. I wonder if this might have to do with another area of the programs limitations?

Unfortunately, the solution I use for task management (OmniFocus) is inherently single-user. It's a really fantastic program though.

I find DayLite makes for a powerful contact manager, if clumsy and sometimes buggy. But I can't use it for any other functions. I'm hoping there's a significant UI overhaul in the near future.
