Hello.

Sure, you can create a Task smartlist where Category is a category and status is not Done.

Hi Doug,

You can create a smart list from Tasks with the criteria owner is "x", status is not done and the category is "x".

This will compile a list of tasks with the category x, that you own and are not done.

Then from the list only view, add the column heading Contacts, you can then sort by the heading contacts and it will organize your tasks in order of contact (alphabetically).

James,

What if the contact has a task of category X, status is done, but they have a task of Category Y, with status new.

Will the technique you suggest still identify the contact as having an outstanding request of category X?

I should have read more closely. The instructions you create give a list of tasks. I need a list of contacts, so I can print envelopes.

How would I then print envelopes or labels for those contacts?

Hi Doug,
If you've already created the smart list to show Tasks that fit a certain criteria, you can print envelopes or labels for the Tasks' Contacts: switch to either the 2-column or 3-column view, do a Select All on the Tasks. Now to the right of the Tasks list you'll see all of the corresponding Contacts: do a select all on the Contacts, then File>Print>choose your label or envelope.

If you prefer, you can create your smart list in Contacts rather than in Tasks; the difference is that instead of returning the Tasks that fit your criteria, it will return Contacts who are linked to Tasks that fit the Task criteria. Either way you can still print labels/envelopes for the Contacts.

Hope this helps,
Cynthia
