Howard. I've already been that route. If it were that easy, I wouldn't have needed to post to the forum. I've been using DayLite for almost a year now, never a login problem before this upgrade. As I stated above, I poured through the knowledge base and forum, and help menu when I could finally access it... with no success in logging in to my database. That's why I posted here.

Your answer is kind of like me asking for some help opening a jar after finding I haven't been able to using all my own strength, and you telling me "all you have to do is unscrew the lid!"

Not only does it not help, but it makes me feel stupid (and I don't need any help with that, I can do that fine on my own!). wink

I've actually found an alternative to DayLite that I'm candidating. This is just losing me too much time and money and no one seems to really care at Market Circle or in the DayLite community. So, it's not really worth it to me anymore. Thanks for the minor interest that a couple of you have shown, though. Good luck in your future endeavors with DayLite. I sure wouldn't want any of you to go through what I am!

Hi Shannon, what is the alternative you've found for the Mac? Is it UP-TO-DATE NOW? I'm also losing too much time trying to get my issue solved!

Well, I seem to have made you feel stupid and you have managed to make me feel a bit mean! I don't think that was either of our intentions.

There has been a big change to Daylite in the latest version and one of the areas that did change a lot is the login. I just can't seem to get exactly what it is you are doing to give you a better answer. But let me try just one more thing before you disappear:

1. Log out from the "blank" database. That command is in the File menu at the bottom under Database.

2. From the File menu choose Log In to Database....

3. In that dialogue box use the drop down menu called "Select a Connection". Hopefully you'll see your database listed. If not choose "Find Local Databases" and hopefully you'll see it. Select your database in either case.

4. Now enter your username and password.

5. Log In

Is that the procedure you used? If so, and it doesn't work, try it again but using Daylite Admin as the username and also as the password. Did that get you in to your database?

Please try and let me know.

Sorry about the misunderstanding!

Regards,

Howard

Thanks Howard. Now it seems I can't even login to a blank database using DayLite Admin login and password. I was only able to do that once successfully. When I did that, I DID try to login to another database, found my two local databases (the old one that I'd backed up before the update, and the new one I'd copied for the update as it suggested) and tried to login first to one and then to the other. No success.

However, now I can't even login to that blank database! I've got to jet right now, and won't be able to work on this again until late tonight or tomorrow IF that since I've got out of town company coming today. And though you've compelled me to work on solving this DayLite thing, I'm so tempted to keep candidating the other alternatives I've found! One even works well with the iPhone! So, we'll see. wink

O.K. I think I see what is happening. The error message is saying this: You have to login in first to your database as the Administrator so it can be updated. After the update completes, then you would be in the database as the admin, not what you really want yet. So at that point, log out and then log back in as shannon with your password.

Also, check to see if you have the latest download, which would be 1394. That is a newer version than when we started this conversation and has some bug fixes. Just go to the same link as before and download again.

So at this point here are the steps:

1. Login to your database "Worldmark" but use Daylite Admin as the username, and Daylite Admin as the password

2. Allow the database to update. Have a look around to see if it's all there as expected.

3. Log Out of the database

4. Log Back in as shannon (like you used to).

Howard

Just one more thing: it can take a bit of time to complete the update. I don't know how large your database is but it could be an hour or more if you have a lot of data.

Actually I think trying out other programs is a useful thing. I do that frequently myself, but I have always come back to Daylite.

As I mentioned before, be sure to get the latest download before you start trying again. They are definitely working on bugs now, so if there is an issue with logins the latest build may actually have the solution.

Good luck!

Howard

I just noticed this article which may be of use to your case:

Please note that due to changes in the way password encryption takes place
in Daylite 3.5 databases, all non alpha-numeric characters within passwords
will no longer be accepted.

If your password consisted of these special characters (ie. '~', '-', '_', etc...) in
your Daylite 3.2.3. database, and you have upgraded to Daylite 3.5, you will
have to enter your password without these characters.

For example, if your password was 'john-smith', you will now have to enter 'johnsmith'.

Also note that as of Daylite 3.5, you will be prevented from entering special characters in the password fields when creating new Daylite user accounts.

Howard

OK. I downloaded the newest build (1394) and tried to login with DayLite Admin. No such luck. I tried to old database. No such luck. Still got the error message. I've got a back up of the database on an external harddrive. I'm going to try importing it to my local server and log into that tomorrow night. It's midnight now and I'm bushed. Got company to entertain tomorrow, and then work til late. But your help has encouraged me to press on. So, I will

BTW, my password has NONE of those funky characters so that isn't generating the problem. At least we know that much.

Shannon,

If after all of this you still can't log in to your database as Daylite Admin, then something at the very core of the database is hosed. The best way to resolve it is to send an email to marketcircle support and include the log files so they can see what is happening. (That option is under the Help menu). They may even ask you to send them the database itself. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though that you get it open.

Howard

Thanks Howard. I already DID send a request to them with the log, though. They sent me the email to login with DayLite Admin password and ID. When I tried that it didn't work and I emailed a reply to that affect, but they never responded which is why I went to the forum. :P
