Hi There,
I have 2 daylite user machines and I want to put the central database on a third machine which is a server. I think I only need 2 licenses for this because only 2 users. But what license number do I use for the install on the server??

Thanks ... TC

The short answer is 'all of them'.

All your licenses should be entered on each machine you will be using Daylite with - this lets them all know how many users are allowed at once (to avoid a 'Too many users' error).

If you're hosting the database one a dedicated machine, Daylite doesn't need to be running on that one (otherwise it would take up a license unnecessarily).

Thanks - but I still do a regular install on the server right? I just don't need to have it launched??

same question here, the answer is a little unclear to me.

Is the answer 2 ?

one license per user = 2

on the server, you open daylite, but do not Log in as a user, so no license required.

or, on the server, you only run the OpenBase db, dont even start Daylite,
Does this mean that you, on the server, install daylite, transfer the db over to the server, get it running, then quit daylite, and it will serve directly from the OpenBase db?

Hey Kaiiak,

All licenses must be entered on all the machines accessing the database.

An easy way to visualize the licensing is if you consider the database to be a house. If you own five licenses made up of two different license and serial numbers, for Daylite to know you have five seats at the house, you must have all the license and serial numbers on all the machines. These means regardless of the machine you connect to the server with, Daylite knows the sum of the number of seats.

Daylite looks at the number of users connecting to the database, not the number of machines Daylite is installed on.
