Hello all -
I'm a (very) new evaluator of DayLite 3 using version 3.6 (beta 1424) with Leopard, so I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. (I know there are no dumb questions, but some are closer to it than others.) Based on the DL3 manual (pg 25) I was under the impression that I could link Projects to everything - Opportunities, Contacts, Organizations, Groups, Appointments, Tasks and Notes. However, in using the program it seems that I can only link a Project to Contacts, Organizations and Groups - not to the other objects. What am I missing here ? Thanks - Jerry |

I think the only objects you can't link a Project to is another Project or to an Opportunity (not sure why).
I do notice that the linking mechanism inside of the edit panes makes it appear that you can't do certain links, but there is an alternate method that is pretty easy, although it may not be so obvious. Try this. Create a Project, or use one you've already created. Use the QuickFind feature and search for it (cmd-f). It should appear in the QuickFind list. You can filter the QF list if you like to have it show only projects. Now, go to the Notes view and drag the Project of interest from the QF window and drop it right on top of a Note (assuming it already exists). BTW, if the note you want to attach is not yet created, select the Project (either in the Project list, or in the QuickFind window), and then use the "Create New Note for Project" command in the top Create Menu (also available via contextual menu). You'll also find similar commands to attach a new task or appointment. Regards, Howard |

Howard - thanks for your suggestion and I see how that works now. I guess what I was looking for is the Note, Task and/or Appointment that is linked to a Project to show up in the right window of the Business Card view. By example, there are six objects that when linked to an Appointment will show up in the right window of the Business Card view. - Jerry

Hi Jerry,
I see your point and don't disagree that it would make some sense if they appeared there. I think the reason they are below is that you can have the additional filtering that is available there. Regards, Howard |

Hi Howard -
Yes, I understand your explanation and thanks for it. I can see that it would be redundant to have the linked things in both places. Most of my usage of DL will be Project-oriented with Pipelines and links to Tasks and Notes (and not very many links to Contacts, Groups or Organizations). As such I end up with a lot of white space in the Project view. I guess that I'll have to learn to live with the filters. Is there any way to add more criteria to the Show: filters under the Progress or Activity tabs? Thanks again for your time - Jerry |

Hi Jerry,
You might consider living in the Progress button at the bottom rather than the Project button. The Progress button will show you the pipeline and stage, along with linked Tasks and Appointments. Back to the Project button: you may not have seen the Heads-Up-Display area when you're in the Project button: it will show you the Last Task, Appointment and Note that are linked to the Project as well as the Next Task and Appointment that are linked to the Project. That Heads-Up-Display area also allows us to write custom HUDs to show other items so you can have a Heads-Up-Display that shows ALL of the Project's linked Tasks, Appts and Notes if you like. Hope this helps, Cynthia MacBook Pro OS X 10.5/Daylite 3.8 ______________________________________ Daylite Master Partner, Daylite Report Certified www.daylitehelp.com ______________________________________ |

Hi Cynthia -
And thanks. I've been tabbing between the Project and Process buttons, and I definitely understand your points. I'll likely live in the Process button world most of the time because of the the Pipeline and Tasks/Appointments. I guess there is no way to get around having all the empty white space in the top windows. The custom HUDs sound interesting. Is there a discussion you could point me to for more about them? Much thanks - Jerry |
