When booking an appointment, I use the "Location" field. Its a mess in there. How can I delete some of the entries in there?

From what I understand editing the list of previous items that have been posted in the "Location" field cannot be edited. Common sense you would think that if there is a list that continues to grow as you enter information you should be able to edit it. This is no where to be found in the program, feature request I guess. I assume we should be fortunate that at least we can see this list of items grow in "Location" since Daylite version 3.5, before this was not even possible.

Thank you for your reply. I do like the drop down list. When the database was imported from ACT!, That field had other unimportant information in it and now that I like to use it in Daylite, there are about 30 "crappy" drop downs that I don't want. Guess I just have to live with it.

I would contact support to see whether they can assist in removing these entries imported from ACT!? I would prefer having this feature shut off until editing in the "Location" field is allowed. Strange to have entries pile up in a field that you cannot edit, and this is a new feature?

Editing locations is simple. Just go to Preferences > Labels and select Location under Label Type. Use the + or - buttons to add or delete locations.

You want to explain that one a little more Jack on how to edit the "Location" in the Appointment field? Thanks Kevin

Here is a screenshot. I'm running Daylite 3.2.3. Did they disable this feature for some reason in 3.5?

This is not in Daylite version 3.5.2 or 3.6. This location label has nothing to do with the "Location" field in appointments. No editing either.

Well that's weird. Why would they remove a feature that was working perfectly well? I guess that's one more reason to postpone upgrading.

Wonder what other features they will decide to take out without mentioning it? I didn't see it in the latest manual?

The only way to remove a Location from Tasks or Appointments, is to first create a Smart List with the Location value you wish to erase completely. Select the Smart List so that ALL entries with that value are highlighted and select them all.
Bulk Edit using Field => Location => Replace Text => [enter the value you wish to erase] => With [{leave blank}] and process that. You should notice now that the Smart List is now empty. Now you must quit the application and restart. Select New Task|Appointment, and the Location value should have been removed. There is a KB article here here which, even though it is pre-372, does work. Having made a point elsewhere that DL still looks uncomfortably like Entourage v1 I just loved the "click on the 'Apply' button to save the changes, and then quit/restart the application" - how un-Mac-like. EDIT - maybe I spoke to soon. I tried a Location made up of two words ("New Text") and DL's Bulk Edit cannot change its name or delete it. EDIT 2 - having looked at it again (and again) I took a Location Label I could not removed and successfully renamed it. when I deleted the new Label it reverted back to it's old name. Ie there are either undocumented features or this function is buggy. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jules, |

I have this same problem with both Task and Appointment locations. I have such junk that is unremovable in these fields that it has rendered what would otherwise be a very handy and convenient field to a highly irritating one.
I wish the older functionality was still present in this regard or at last have some means of cleaning these fields so their convenience and worth can be restored. |

I also use the location field quite a bit for meetings and events--many of which never repeat. It would be nice to be able to go in to the cache and delete ones that don't repeat,i.e, a one-time meeting location, but frankly I've not found it to be much of a problem, even with 100+ locations.
I just rely on the auto-recognition feature DL has, i.e. I start typing and it brings up conforming entries of past locations. I rarely, if ever, scroll through the locations to select one. Still, it's a bit of waste to have the cache retain the location of a restaurant where I had a meeting 7 years ago. (I can't imagine the number of one-time locations sales people deal with.) It would be nice to have the option either to clean the cache. |
