I am looking for a CRM solution for me and my business partner. Is it possible to work from the same database from 2 different locations with Daylight?
Thanks in advance! Jaap. |

In a Multi-user setup of Daylite, you can create one main database and have multiple users connect to the same database and access the same info.

Jaap -
Do spend some time hunting around the forum for more in-depth responses to your question. "2 different location" is quite vague. What do you mean... you're in Amsterdam & your buddy is in Hong Kong? ... or you're on the 1st floor & he's on he 2nd floor? I think I saw a recent thread which concluded that connecting via TCP/IP was not wise. - David OS X v10.4.11 Daylite v3.7.6 (Build 1611) |

Jaap,
Information on sharing your database and accessing it remotely is available on our Knowledge base - you can find some information in this article as well as this one. This information is also available through Daylite's help (available from the Help > Daylite Help menu). Sharing over the Internet (TCP) is possible, and there are many uses successfully using this, but the performance will greatly depended on the quality and speed of the connection at both ends; if it's not sufficient, you may be better off using an offline copy (depending on your use of Daylite). Thanks for your reply. We work from different locations, we have a small office in Amsterdam but we work from home a lot. So I am talking about a central database with internet connection of a web based solution but that is a rather expensive solution. But I will have a better look at the knowledge base first.
Thanks! |

I have read the info in the knowledge base and understand that it is possible to share a database over the internet with a Mac server. It might not be the best (fastest) solution but worth to try. 2 more questions:
1. Do I need to buy a 3th license in order to install Daylite on the server? (2 users + 1 server) 2. We have a linux server mainly used for backup and file sharing. Can't I put the database file on this server? (guess not) Any other possible solutions are welcome! Again, thanks for your help so far.. Jaap. |

Jaap,
1. You would either need a third license for the server, or you would need to designate one of the workstations as the server, i. e. it would need to be on all the time and available at a stable internet address. (Preferably static IP, but a variable IP address should work with DynDNS or similar.) 2. Daylite runs on OpenBase SQL, and OpenBase is available for Linux. So in theory that might be possible, but I'm sure it's not a supported configuration. Let me know if you get it working. ;-) Note that the smallest (non-OEM) OpenBase license costs quite a bit more than a seat of Daylite... Have you considered the possibility of running one of your seats offline? Daylite (with help from OpenBase) supports offline operation, meaning that each user can have a local copy of the database and then sync that with the server as desired. That would make sense if you and your partner don't need real-time access to each other's latest changes, and don't frequently edit the same information. (When a record is changed on the server and offline, "server wins" on next sync.) Best, Chris Ferebee |

The licensing for Daylite works on concurrent connections to the database, so you only need to have as may licenses as you'll have people connected to the database at the same time; unless you plan to also have someone use Daylite on the database host at the same time as the other 2, you'll only need 2 licenses (make sure you enter them on each computer - http://www.marketcircle.com/kb/idx/0/072/article/
Daylite databases are licensed to only run on Mac OS X. Need help in Daylite or Billings? Check the Help menu for Apple Help documentation. |

This is what I need to do. I run Daylite 3 on a MAC Pro on my studio mostly, but I would like to have it also on a MAC Book Pro when I get on the road. How would I set it up? How would I sync them? Thanks |

Are you currently a Daylite customer with a license or are you doing an evaluation on the software?

I am currently evaluating Daylite 3 and planning to buy it in the next few days. I just need to know how it will work for me. I am a wedding/portrait photographer and so far Daylite 3 fits the bill perfectly. Although is not a break deal I would love to be able to at least have access to what I have in Daylite at my studio when I am on the road in my laptop. At least I know I can sync the address book and the icalendar. But I rather see the info within Daylite itself. So I am just curious if it can be done with just one license. Otherwise, I will be |

Hey David,
Daylite gives you the ability to create offline copies of the database. This is specifically useful when going on the road. You can create an offline copy, take it with you, make any necessary changes and once you return, update those changes. For complete details, check out the apple help system in Daylite for "offline database". If you are looking for details on sharing information with a handheld device, I've included some instructions on Syncing, but you are going to want to read the entire Daylite Synchronization Guide, which can be found under the Help menu. Daylite is compatible with iSync (Apple's Sync services), the industry standard for syncing. Daylite will sync data between itself and iCal/Address Book seamlessly in the background, without you needing to launch the other programs. From there, it is the users responsibility for getting their data onto their phone or PDA device. Here is a list of Apple's supported iSync devices. For devices that are not directly compatible with iSync, both us and Apple recommend using Missing Sync by Mark Space to handle the sync between your device and Apple's sync services. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us directly. ______________________________________ James Spencer Marketcircle Sales jspencer@marketcircle.com phone: +1 (888) 287-9186 option 1 fax: +1 (905) 248-3101 ======================= |
