I've seen this posted from posts from 2006, and I don't see it as a feature currently.

I would love (find it necessary) the ability to Grab address and info from a Contact to a Organization.

On my import for some reason the address only attached to the contact and not the organization associated with it. Currently I have to manually enter or copy/paste the address from the contact to the organization (over 1500 contacts). It would be really helpful if I could just select that contact from the organization panel, and Grab it's contact info.

Is there any reason why this functionality isn't there? Its not a practical use of my time to copy/paste the addresses of 1500 contacts/organizations, just to maintain my data management software.

Thanks
Peter

Yes this is another feature requested for years and would be nice to have.

Somewhere I posted about this but your best bet I believe is to export a CSV file with your organization information and contact info and then import a CSV file to update the contacts.

I think this time of mass changes would be faster in a text editor and you can assign this to an intern. Just back up the database first.

cheers

Hey Butterbutter,

If you select all your contacts, in the Bulk Edit option, you can copy the default address and/or phones to and from organizations as well as coping the category to an organization.

Two other tips for best practise:

Create a backup so you have something to resort back to and if you are coping data from the contact to the organization, make sure the contact does have those details as this action overwrites the field data is being copied to.

This should be what you are looking for.

Hi James.

Yes, this works great. Thanks!

Is there any way to do with without Bulk?
For instance if I only have one contact to apply this to?

Yes PLEASE! This can't be an obscure request nor big engineering. Please consider adding such necessary functionality to what is a powerful product in need of such simple but necessary features!

Hi Andrew,

This has already been a feature of Daylite 3. See James's post that I have quoted below.

Far too convoluted. I've used that feature and yes it works. But for a single contact, there are far easier and direct methods to do this (Swap address). Its' far easier and faster to do in say Now Contact. The bulk dialog while powerful and useful, is overkill and not super intuitive.

In terms of the functionary in Now Contact, if you have say 10 addresses all the same and edit one address, you're automatically asked if you wish to update the other 9. You can select just the one edit or all 10. The software is doing work for you, which of course is what software should do. Its giving you options too. I can see cases where all 10 addressed need to be identically updated and some cases where only one needs to be. You don't need a big, complicated UI to ask the user these questions and based on a simple reply, update one or all identical address.

Peter also seems to be asking for a feature I don't see, at least fully implemented, grabbing address and contact info into the clip board (I would love to grab)...

In Now Contact, you can build "copy templates" easily for just this task then access them from a fly out menu much like you now have in the "Copy phone/Address Info" menu. You only want name and address but not phone numbers, fine. You want all info, you can build that into the template. The "Copy phone/Address information" doesn't provide this (at least if its configurable, I can't find it). Can I get address and phone in one copy?
