Folks,

Is there some hidden way to open a contact/organisation via the keyboard from the Find (command-F) window? The current method of trying to hit that tiny arrow or double-click the entry in the selection is rather tedious.

Anyone have some info.

Can't see anything. With the Find window in focus, you can trawl through the Menu bar commands and see what is possible and the keyboard shortcuts, but none mimic pressing the goto arrow. Closest is probably cmd-E to edit. You can create new tasks, appointments etc for the found contact. If the find has brought up several results, you may need tab to change focus from the search field to the results box and then cursor up/down.

I agree it would certainly be a useful shortcut to have.

Second that.

A goto arrow shortcut is a must. I am quite surprised more users have not reinforced this request.

Hi Brent,
The keyboard command for goto is command-g (without the hyphen of course
The keyboard command for edit is command-e (without the hyphen of course)

Hope this helps,
Cynthia

Thanks Cynthia.

You've made this keyboard junkie very happy.

This shortcut is not in the help list. Wondering if there are any other goodies not there?

Also would like to know why one can't tab between panes such as in the contacts window - tab between the contact pane and the activity pane.

Can tab around the calendar window (a little) but not the others as far as this newbie can tell.

Hi Brent,

I've been thinking about this a little and I'm not exactly sure what tabbing between the contact and activity panes would do for you since neither offers any editing possibilities. But here's one that I find useful. cmd-~ (that's the tilde) will cycle between open windows such as QuickFind and the Main Window.

Howard

You got me in a creative mood and I now have a keyboard shortcut for moving right to the Activity view. Here's how.

Go to the System Keyboard and Mouse Preference Pane

Add Daylite as an Application (can be tricky if Daylite is in an enclosing folder, as it was for me - in that case use the last choice in the list which is "Other" and you'll get a standard file browser)

Add a shortcut titled "Activity" (no quotes)
Set a shortcut - I used cmd-u since it's unused for anything else in Daylite

Now cmd-u opens the Activity pane. You could add others. Just be sure to type the Menu item exactly as it appears in the menu of interest.

Regards,

Howard

Thanks Howard. I have created keyboard shortcuts like this in the past. Just tried but it didn't work. Rebooted DL - still not working. Can't remember if I have to reboot Mac. Will try when I have time.

In any case, when you try it, do you still have to use your mouse to get into the list pane. If so, the shortcut will not be that useful.

BTW It is not to edit items that I wish for this ability but rather to view them. I am constantly referring to recent emails.

Still, Cynthia has saved me a lot of *mouse-time* with the CMD-g shortcut.

Thanks for your help though.

Yes, I think you would still have to get into the list itself for it to work. But the combo of the 2 - Cynthia's cmd-g and the new self created shortcut should do what you want and pretty quickly. For instance the shortcut I added to Activity is cmd-u. Now if I select a contact in QuickFind and type cmd-g then u without lifting off of cmd I go right to that contact's Activity view.
