I'm currently trying out Daylite 3 with an eye towards buying. But there is one thing that is absolutely necessary for me. I have to produce a report weekly detailing who I talked to and what we talked about. I feel the data I need can be contained in the notes. The rub is the report has to be submitted in a standard form using Excel. With my old CRM I was able to pull a report, filtered by created date, then save it as a tab delimited text file, which could be imported into Excel. Is such a thing possible in Daylite?

Hi Dave,
Yes, it is possible. Here's what you do (it sounds worse than it is): When you make a call, log it as a task. Give it a category of (Calls Out). To do this you must first create that category in Daylite Prefs. In the details write the data you want to describe the call that should show up in Excel. Be sure to attach the task to the contact (several ways to do that). Make a Smart List in the tasks view. For the criteria choose the Calls Out category and for Create date choose this week. Now you'll have a list with all the calls you made this week. Choose the flat list view up at the top. Choose to show the columns you want in your report. (All this setup has to be done only once). Highlight all the entries (cmd-A). File Menu:Export:Visible Columns and Selected Rows as File. Set to Tab-Delimited and CLRF(Windows). The resulting text file is easily imported into Excel and prettied up as needed. Options: You could create notes instead of tasks if you like. Same procdure as above just substitute Notes list for Tasks list etc. Also it's possible to create the tasks via the Call mechanism. It's a lot more to explain but in summary, you create a new call by clicking on the contact's phone number label and choosing dial (shortcut is F1 or F2). You'll get the Outgoing Call dialogue with a timer and notes fields etc. Proceed as above. The main advantage is that you get the Call symbol to show the type of task as an Outgoing Call (can be used in the smart list as a criteria instead of category) and you get a timer. Once you work out your workflow this should all go very smoothly. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Howard, Regards, Howard |
