I think this has been brought up before but might be a good time to bring it up again.
When I have a cancelled appointment I can change the status to Cancelled - not a problem. However, the cancelled appointment still shows up on the Calender views. I would like to keep the cancelled appointment as a record of cancellation, but I don't want it to appear on the calendar. Sometimes the appoinment is months or even a year in advance, and when I look at the calendar and see an appointment - I assume it's valid. Does anyone else have a problem with this? I would like to see a preference to show/hide cancelled appointments - possibly even within the appointment itself so you could activate the hide on an appointment by appointment basis. |

Hi Mike,
I agree, I'd like to see maybe a preference or a little icon in the appt's title bar indicating that it's cancelled. The method I and my clients have used is to have an appt category that's "cancelled" and then do a smart calendar to show all categories except "cancelled". And we just live in that smart calendar. Excellent suggestion for a work-around Cynthia. Just wish it wasn't a work-around.

While that will work technically, the downside of the workaround is that an appointment can have only one category. So, since I'd prefer to keep the "real" category of the cancelled appointments for tracking purposes, the workaround won't work for me.
I would prefer to have either:
Ideally, we could have both... and the visual indication of the cancelled appointments on the calendar could also be extended to those that are "tentative" -- e.g., strikethrough for cancelled and italics for tentative. |

Hi Scott,
I couldn't agree more, I'd love to see an 'x' or strikethrough for cancelled, a '?' for tentative, things like that. I've already put it through Help>Suggestion and I know you're on top of this suggestion stuff too. I've also thought that keywords for a Task or Appt would be a nice idea, and expanding the options in the Smart Calendar to more closely match the array of options in Contacts (for instance). Keep suggesting! I just tried that suggestion Cynthia... but didn't read carefully that you have to create a new category. Like Scott, I'd like to keep the Category 'real' and be able to select based on Status.
I'll add in my vote for a Help>Suggestion |

I hear you Mike, how about adding something to front of the Appt title (like an X or -X-) to indicated cancelled? You'd still see the appt in the calendar but you'd be able to visually see that it's cancelled. Another option for those users who live in the Day view and don't currently make use of the Location field would be to put an "X" or "cancelled" in the Location field. Then you'd see it in the title bar for the appt. Just some thoughts...

Great ideas, Cynthia!
Don't know why I didn't think of the simple workaround of adding an X to the title myself!! Guess I got so focused on the 'ideal' solution I couldn't see the simple obvious workaround! (Of course, I'd still prefer something automatic built into DL, so I hope MC gets enough feedback about this to move it up on their priority list.) |

Thanks Scott! Ok, now the idea-factory is cranking more...how about creating those additional categories I mentioned earlier, just adding the word "cancelled" to the end and making the color less saturated? For instance, let's say that you have these 2 category options for appts: personal (blue color) and business (red color). Add 2 additional categories: personal cancelled (less saturated shade of same blue color) and business cancelled (less saturated shade of same red color). This way you'd get a color indicator when you're viewing your calendar, and you'd also have the option of making a smart calendar to omit the cancelled ones if you like.
Hey I like this idea, I'm going to implement it in my own database! Cynthia MacBook Pro OS X 10.5/Daylite 3.8 ______________________________________ Daylite Master Partner, Daylite Report Certified www.daylitehelp.com ______________________________________ |

I like the idea of creating "shadow" categories to track cancelled appontments.
I want tentiative and cancelled appointments in my calender, only not as solid as the real ones. Following your idea I can achieve what I want. Drawback is, that triples the number of my categories. Up to now I was using a category per customer and a few special purpose ones. Probably time to rethink my approach. :-) However, I tend to forget things. I would appreciate it if changing the status would trigger a visual change. Thanks, /Markus. |

Running across this situation again and I'm trying the new 'Cancelled' Category with a very light colour. I noticed in the colour picker, you can also set the opacity. This allows you to really fade the colour so it's not so obtrusive.
Seems to be working.... but I'd still like a better visual indication of cancelled appointments so that I can leave the actual category intact and not have two colours per category - one active and once cancelled. It really does complicates the category picker. |
