Well I'm beginning to get my feet wet using the 'estimate' aspect of DayLite and now have a few questions. I've watched all of the 'videos' they're helpful, but didn't address my issues. I also have a few feature requests...
1). I have created an estimate which I want to be in the name of the Organization and to the attention of my contact. I am able to get my contact's info to show up, but for the life of me I can't get any of the Organization's info to show without getting errors. My workaround has been to create a template for each estimate (since I can't figure this out) with each organization's name/address/city/zip manually typed in. 2). When I am creating a 'service' item, the window for the description is only one line high. I have been able to paste in 5-6 lines of text and it displays properly in my estimate, but each time I return to edit the 'service' item, I can't see all of the description so I end up having to delete the service item and then create a new service item so that I can paste in the updated description. • 5/5/07 UPDATE: Here's a workaround until the 'window' has been made larger than a single line... Hold down the 'option' key and hit 'return' to access each additional line of text not visible from the single line window. 3). Since I have duplicated my estimate template to achieve my desired results (as mentioned above), I have created another problem, and that is when I go to create the estimate, the names of all of these templates are the same. What am I doing wrong? 4). Is there a way to insert a service item within an estimate? I had to add a service item to my estimate, and I wanted it to go in a certain spot. Since I couldn't figure out how to do that, I deleted the estimate and then re-entered everything in the 'order' I desired. If this is the current state of the application, it would be helpful to be able to move items up or down within the estimate. In QuickBooks, I can insert a blank line by pressing ' V' and can delete by pressing ' B'. A simple '+' or '-' would be fine too. 5). There need to be a more efficient way of adding or removing items within an estimate (a few buttons ... '+/-' for Products and a '+/-' for Services, etc.). The current method is very time consuming. 6). It would be very helpful to have the ability to place individual services and products into groups or categories. This would save a lot of time by not having to scan an entire list of services/products to find the one you need. 7). Is there a way to have costs displayed within the quote? If so, is the estimate able to be printed without the costs (like in QuickBooks)? Overall I like the power and flexibility I can see DL is capable of and I'm sure the 'estimate' aspect will continue to improve with each new release. Any advice/help would be appreciated... Adding additional columns within this view to allow for sorting and viewing, would be great...

Love the estimate part of DayLite and hate it too
I could really use some help with this problem. I've read that to have the 'items' appear on the estimate in the order that you want, you have to play around with the first part of your description. Ok, no problem. The problems occur when making revisions to an existing estimate (by adding additional items), after which the 'order' of the items become jumbled when previewed or printed. In addition, sorting by column doesn't change the outcome either. The only fix I have found at this point is to manually delete every item and then reenter them all in the desired order. Very time consuming and frustrating. Does anyone have a work around??? -Patrick This message has been edited. Last edited by: wpdv, |
