We have to do a mail out for hundreds of contacts. Mail merge in DayLite or merged using Word from DayLite creates hundreds of one page documents that then take forever to command-P Enter command-W ad infinitum (or hundreds of times)

We therefore find it easier to do a mail merge in Excel and Word.

The problem is this:

When generating the columns to export to a delimited file, if you have used a carriage return to enter a long address in the address field, the export function does not export the whole address only the first line!

Also, if there are no details in a field the export function does not include a "padded" field to ensure that all the following fields stay in line!

(ie the columns selected includes organisation address as well as contact address but there is no organisation for a contact so therefore no organisation address)

Please help!

This is a bit lengthy, but it works:

1. Create the mailout in DayLite. Use the DL "Merge - Write Letter in DayLite"
2. Create or select the Letter template
3. Under the Action Drop down menu, select "Print Right Away. This will bring up the print dialog. Assuming you have Tiger, on the button that says "PDF" at the bottom of the dialog box, select it and choose "save pdf as postscript". Pick a folder and click save. This will produce hundreds of .ps files in a single folder.
4. Create an automator task to print them.
Once the automator task is created, you can save it as a mini application and then in the future, you can just drag and drop the folder onto the automator task and off you go.

It sounds like a lot, but in fact it will be easier than setting up an export and then doing the merge through excel or word.

Hope this helps.
