How do I get DL to see the groups in AB so they are in DL? I don't want to have to go through each one and choose a category in DL.

Unfortunately Daylite doesn't work in the same way as Address Book, so this can't be done automatically.

For an illustration, note that you can put a single contact into two groups in Address Book. Categories in Daylite don't work the same way—a contact can only have one category.

HTH,

I hear what you are saying. But, when I sync with AB don't the “group” assignment come over to DL as a category? Or do I have to go in and set them all in DL for each contact?

I'm glad you asked this question. I downloaded a trial a few days ago and started formatting some contacts and opportunities. Then comparing my AB to DL and notice the DL categories do not sync with AB, just the actual contact (and vice versa with AB to DL). I would like to get an iPhone, this would be one more step into actually using it as a business phone. Is there a work around?

Again, we wouldn't know "which" group assignment to use, so it is not reliable. If I put Grant Griffiths into three Address Book groups—"Customers," "Friends," and "Important"—which category does he get in Daylite?

That's why we can't "just" bring the groups over as categories. However, there is a checkbox in the Synchronization preference pane in Daylite that says "I sync with an iPhone or The Missing Sync for Palm OS" ... selecting this checkbox will match the categories and groups as closely as possible.

HOWEVER, just to reiterate and be clear, this may mess around a bit with your categories if you have contacts who fit into multiple groups in Address Book.

Hope it helps though! smile

I set my categories in DL to match letter for letter and cap for cap as they are in Address Book and it works great. They also sync just great to iPhone. Since I only assign one group in AB, it was not a problem in DL.

I've just dl'd DayLite 3.7.1 to demo.

In AdressBook, I assign contacts primarily to one group -- but *some* to a 2nd, named "cell".

Contacts in the "cell" list -- and only this list -- are sync'd to/from my Motorala phone over Bluetooth via iSync. *NOT* using either iPhone or MissingSync, as referenced above ...

All this discussion is, unfortunately, not clear to me at all ...

Having setup Daylite, how *in* Daylite do I assign/control which contacts get sync'd with my phone?
