What I mean by this is, once I've added my data for the task, which in most cases I do solely via keyboard input, now it’s time to save the new task. Only way I see to do that is take my right hand off the keyboard, grab the mouse and hit the OK button. Selecting return doesn’t do it, I presume because I may wish to hit return in the details field while adding text.

But, I hate having to go to the mouse to finish the task addition when everything I've done prior has been done with keyboard input. Is there some shortcut or menu command I'm missing that will allow me to save the task?

If not, then I'll make a suggestion to Daylite. What I'd ideally like to see are two menu commands: Add entry (so you can use the keyboard to add the task, note, project, whatever), and Add entry/New Entry, which would add the current entry and automatically create a new entry window (for entering a series of entries, like adding a dozen tasks at a time.

Don’t make me take my hands off the keyboard. Just slows me down too much.

Rick-

To Save: 'Control-Tab' to bypass the detail field, then press enter or return.

New Task:  N

Ctrl Tab does indeed get me through the details field (thanks for that tip), but tabbing never activates the OK button, so hitting return never saves the task. If I keep hitting tab, after it gets to the ‘remind me at’ field, one more tab takes it back to the task name field. It just loops.

That's funny. I just checked and the "OK" button is actually ready at all times while in the editing pane for a task. You can hit RETURN at any time except when in the Details field, no need to "Activate" the OK button, at least not on my machine.

Regards,

Howard

Hit 'return' after you have left the 'details' field. Your work will be saved then.

interesting.

My OK button is never active via the keyboard, regardless of where I've tabbed onto the form.

When I hit ‘return’ the app just beeps at me and nothing happens. It does NOT save my task.

I wonder why it works differently for one person versus another?

Hi Rick,
Please go to Daylite>Preferences>General and make sure that the checkbox is checked for "OK button default for create/edit cards".

Hope this helps,
Cynthia

Cynthia, that was it! Thanks very much for that tip. I figured there had to be a way, just had no clue where to look. Wouldn’t have found that setting, and probably wouldn’t have realized what it was had I been looking there.

Rick,
Fantastic! Hey, while you're in Prefs, do take a look at some of your other options under the Basic section. One in particular that people miss is also in the General button: check ON the box called Show Time in Month View. When you're in month view on your calendar, you will see the start time of your appt next to the appt's name. Contextual Menus are also great at speeding up your workflow.

Have a great week,
Cynthia
